Sam O. Hirota, Inc., was established in 1963 as a Honolulu-based consulting engineering and surveying firm. For 60 years the firm has executed a wide range of engineering, planning, surveying, and mapping projects throughout Hawaii, the Trust Territories, and the South Pacific including Guam, American Samoa, and Palau. Projects have served Federal, State and local governments, and the private sector.

 

Our firm strives to integrate new technology, in the form of 3D full-color digital documentation and modeling, with tried-and-true principles and practices of traditional land surveying and civil engineering. Position:

 

Land Survey Field Technician (Entry Level)

 

 

 

Position description: 

 

  • Assist the Survey Party Chief in completing the crew's assigned survey projects.
  • Ability to operate a total station instrument and data collector.
  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, and sketches.
  • Collect information needed to carry out new surveys, using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records, and other relevant information.
  • Assist with the maintenance of survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies.
  • Must be able to accurately perform vertical and horizontal control surveys and required calculations under the direction of the Licensed Land Surveyor.
  • Conduct project research, boundary calculations, and record survey data.

 

 

 

Position requirements: 

 

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong listening, writing, and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to take direction and work independently.
  • Ability to traverse and work in all types of terrains and weather conditions. 
  • Ability to work extended hours, including Saturdays and ability to travel out of town for extended periods of time (when required).
  • Previous experience and knowledge of surveying preferred, but not required.
  • Maintain a current driver's license in good standing.
