Hale Ku'ike, the standard in memory care, is looking for a talented and dependable Culinary Arts professional to work as a Line Chef and showcase their culinary talents to our residents and staff.


Job Type: Part-Time

Location: Honolulu, Oahu


Job Summary

The Line Chef will be responsible for preparing wholesome, flavorful meals for residents in accordance with their dietary requirements, and with Hale Ku’ike’s mission, facility standards, procedures and resident care plans.


Primary Job Functions

  • Consult with supervisor to plan menus
  • Prepare and cook meals according to cycle menus
  • Verify that prepared food meets requirements for quality and quantity
  • Clean, stock, and restock workstations and service areas
  • Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
  • Wash and dry all dishes, silverware and cooking equipment
  • Bag up trash and take out to dumpster
  • Accept and inspect delivery of supplies. Notify delivery person and supervisor about any problems with deliveries
  • Schedule activities and equipment use with managers, using information about daily menus to help coordinate cooking times
  • Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods
  • Other job duties as assigned

Physical, Mental, and Communication Demands

  • Requires frequent lifting and moving of boxes, bags, crates, and equipment up to 50 lbs. unaided and 75 lbs. with assistance; pushing and pulling carts up to 100 lbs.
  • Working in an environment with sharp blades and equipment producing extreme heat
  • Requires standing and walking for up to 8 hours during the 10-hour shift with frequent reaching above head-level
  • Requires learning dietary department operations, including receiving, unloading, transferring deliveries and inventory
  • Must follow specific instructions and safety procedures, working to a specific routine

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred but not required
  • Completion of a culinary arts program is a plus
  • tuberculosis clearance (2-step TB test or IGRA clearance)
  • Physician’s health clearance
  • Successful background check, in accordance with local laws/regulations
  • Prior work experience in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets or related experience in a similar type of facility is preferred
  • Ability to meet the physical and mental abilities of the job (reasonable accommodation for qualified disabilities will be considered by the employer on an individual basis as provided under the Americans with Disabilities Act)
  • Requires excellent communication skills across all levels of the company
  • Must be a reliable team player
  • Ability to adjust to a dynamic work environment


Wages start at $16.00/hr commensurate with education and experience
