MHPCC INFORMATION SYSTEM SECURITY OFFICER – ID# 225577.

(2) Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC), Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program’s “Maui High Performance Computing Center”, located at the Maui Research and Technology Park (MRTP) in Maui, Hawai‘i. This position will conduct research under the University of Hawai‘i Maui Support for Technical and Research Services (MSTARS) contract.  Continuation of employment is dependentuponprogram/operationalneeds,satisfactoryworkperformance,availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

 

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $8,000 - $11,000/Mon. 

 

DUTIES:  Serves as the principle advisor to the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) on all matters, technical and otherwise, involving the security of an information system. Ensures the implementation and maintenance of security controls in accordance with Security Plans and Department of Defense (DoD) policies. Coordinates, facilitates, or otherwise ensures certain activities are being performed for selected security programs and projects. Evaluates and measures the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC) Information Systems (IS) security program contract’s statements of work and ensures customer needs are effectively met. Develops, maintains, and executes Department of Defense (DoD) compliant Information Assurance policies and procedures for primary customer base. Supports the development and execution of an IS security education and awareness training program. 

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or a related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline. (Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college in related field, and at least of two (2) additional years of work experience which is equivalent to the duties of this job and has acquired the skills necessary to perform all job duties, or High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and at least four (4) additional years of related work experience equivalent to the job duties and has acquired the skills necessary to perform all job duties may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.).

EXPERIENCE

Atleasttwo (2) yearsofexperienceinacomputerrelated field. Includes at least one (1) year of experience in computer security or attendance at a computer security training course.

KNOWLEDGE

Familiar with the operating systems of automated informationsystems(AIS),NISTSpecialPublication(SP) 800 series, Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 199 Workbook, OMB Memoranda and Circulars, and interacting with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual(NISPOM) and Defense Security Systems (DSS). Familiarization with various operating systems: UNIX, Linux, and MicrosoftWindows. Familiar with various information security assessment tools – Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), and Nessus. Familiar with Assessment and Authorization processes (Risk Management Framework).

ABILITIES & SKILLS

MustbeaU.S.Citizen.Applicantsselectedwillbesubject to a Government security investigation and must meet eligibilityrequirementsforaccesstoclassifiedinformation. Ability to monitor and evaluate system-operating characteristics. Ability to manage multiple IS projects simultaneously.Abilitytoeffectivelyplan,coordinate,and implement IS systems Security Programs at MHPCC. Ability to travel as required. PostOffer/EmploymentConditions:Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on a tier-3 background investigation to access classified information. Must obtain DoD 8570.1 Certification (e.g., Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), etc.) within six (6) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months. 

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Ability to perform repetitive keyboard entry for twenty to forty (20-40) hours per week.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:    

 

Knowledge of University of Hawai‘i (UH) & Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i (RCUH) policies and procedures. Cognizant of Special Access Required/Special Access Programs (SAR/SAP), and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) environment computing and network security.
