Marine Electrician (Honolulu, HI)


Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for the detailed scheduling and coordination of electrical maintenance work. 
  • Responsible for equipment readiness, maintenance group work assignments, inventory and control of maintenance assets, and provides technical guidance/assistance on all matters.
  • Develops standard work procedures and detailed work instructions for maintenance and inspection processes in accordance with NAVSEA standards. 
  • Performs responsibilities as a competent person in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR Standard 1915 for confined spaces.
  • Maintains and ensure compliance with ISO-9001 procedures and work instructions, administrative policies, and government regulations. 
  • Ensures marine electricians are properly trained. 
  • Conducts quality control of work to ensure compliance with specifications and time schedules. Interprets specifications, drawing, work orders, technical instructions, and layouts. 
  • Ensures employees adhere to all safety requirements, procedures, and policies. Supervises the requisitioning, receipt, and allocation of tools, parts, and material. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary actions. 
  • Know how to write both technical and conditional reports. 
  • Interpret company policies, enforce safety regulations, and analyze and resolve problems to/with workers and able to inspect any (trade) work and assure that it will meet all QA Standards. 
  • Perform business management duties, such as maintaining records or files, preparing reports, or ordering supplies or equipment. 
  • Performs physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit or moving or lifting heavy objects.
Working Conditions/Job Environment: 
  • Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. 
  • Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. 
  • Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Uses a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps. 
  • Inspects electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. 
  • Prepares sketches or follows blueprints to determine the location of writing or equipment and to ensure conformance to building safety codes. 
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. 
  • Works from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures. 
  • Advises management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. 
  • Maintains current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
  • Places conduit, pipes, or tubing inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes. 
  • Directs or trains workers to install, maintains, or repairs electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures. 
  • Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. 
  • Installs group leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors. 
  • Assembles, installs, tests, or maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, perform business management duties, such as maintaining records or files, preparing reports, or ordering supplies or equipment. 
  • Fastens small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets. 
  • Constructs or fabricates parts using hand tools according to specifications. 
  • Performs physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit or moving or lifting heavy objects. 
  • Provides assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights or generators, placing flares, or driving needed vehicles. 
  • Provides preliminary sketches or cost estimates for materials or service. 
  • Ability to adapt to an environment such as exposure to heat, dust, humidity, rain, sun, and wind. 
  • Ability to handle equipment and operational noise levels exceeding 85 decibels, powered vehicle exhaust, and paint fumes. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen to gain access to BAE controlled work sites.
  • Ability to adhere to various federal/state/local safety regulations, and equipment used. 
  • All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening, and qualify for a Rapid Gate ID card. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification. 
  • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for start of shift. 
  • Candidates must be available for work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as required. 
Supervisory Responsibilities:  
  • Supervises 
  • Responsible for managing, mentoring and review of performance on a regular basis. 
Education/Training Requirements: 
  • AA Degree or coursework towards a BS degree in engineering or business-related Discipline preferred. 
  • Three (3) years of supervisory role. 
  • Must possess the ability to safely utilize ladders; work at elevated heights and in confined spaces. 
  • Working knowledge of shipboard main plant operation, electronic navigation, Ship Service Diesel Generators (SSDG), switchboards, motor controllers and auxiliary, electrical, hydraulic systems. 
  • Ability to comply with all established methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position
  • Must have a current security clearance or be able to obtain a security clearance to access government websites.
