Oculofacial Plastic Surgery of Hawaii & Cataract and Vision Center of Hawaii

We are seeking a motivated medical/surgical assistant to join our team at the Oculofacial Plastic Surgery of Hawaii and the Cataract and Vision Center of Hawaii. This position will focus on providing outstanding medical care in both ophthalmic and oculoplastic procedures.

The ideal candidate must be a team player, have excellent bedside manner, professional, self-starter, good at multi-tasking, and be able to perform in a fast-paced environment. Hours: Part-Time, Per Diem

Location:

  • Queens POB 1, 1380 Lusitana Street, Honolulu, HI 96813
  • Cataract and Vision Center of Hawaii, 1712 Liliha Street, Honolulu, HI 96817

Clinic Responsibilities:

·      Perform patient intakes and obtain medical history

·      Perform testing such as vision, pupils, intraocular pressure, and ocular motility

·      Take facial photos 

·      Medical documentation and scribing in EMR

·      Maintain medical records, photos, billing, coding, and insurance info

·      Assist with clinic procedures (e.g. biopsies, botox, lasers, and fillers)

·      Assist with removing sutures or staples

·      Maintain medical supplies inventory 

·      Explain procedures, medications, and instructions to patients

·      Cross-train to help with administrative activities like answering phones and scheduling

 

Surgical Responsibilities:

·      Assist with surgeries under supervision of surgeon and circulating nurse

·      Set up procedure room or operating room

·      Prepare patients for surgery

·      Pass instruments to surgeon, retract, cut sutures, and count needles and instruments

·      Assist with purchasing and instrument sterilization

·      Operate, assemble, adjust, and monitor surgical equipment

 

Qualifications and Experience:
-      Prefer a college graduate or currently in college
·      1 year experience as a medical assistant, ophthalmic tech, and/or surgical tech preferred 
·      Pre-med or Pre-PA is a plus
·      Previous experience in Oculoplastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, or Dermatology a plus

·      Experience with EMR (electronic medical records) and medical terminology

·      Any experience with photography, social media, and foreign languages are a plus
