Join one of the most successful ophthalmology practices in Hawaii. For over 30 years, the Cataract and Vision Center of Hawaii (CVCH) has provided comprehensive, refractive, and surgical eye care to thousands of patients every year!
We are currently seeking an energetic, friendly, and detail-oriented person to join our team as a Ophthalmic Surgical Technologist. You will work alongside our surgical team in our state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgical Center. Your primary duties include assisting the ophthalmic surgeon by anticipating their needs and ensuring a procedure is executed as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
Prepare and organize the operating room in advance of surgery, clean equipment, maintain a sterile environment and ensure that the operating room maintains an atmosphere that respects the dignity and individuality of each patient, while adhering to the Surgery Centers policies and procedures.
Must be reliable, punctual, multi-tasker and detail oriented. Previous surgical experience is preferred. We will provide on the job training and various opportunities for growth.
List of Responsibilities/Duties:
· Explain surgery procedures to patients in a professional and friendly demeanor. Prepare and organize the operating room equipment, instruments, and supplies as required for various surgical procedures.
· Perform room set up and instrument set up while confirming that the correct instruments and supplies are properly prepared for the procedure. Supports the OR team with instrument cleaning and sterilization.
· Check all required instruments for proper functioning prior to operation and reports any malfunctioning/broken equipment to the circulator prior to the start of any surgical procedure.
· Set up a sterile and sanitary environment and maintain the sterile field for the patient during procedures.
· Recognize breaks in sterile technique and takes corrective action.
· Provide patient-centered care before, during and after surgery, by recognizing and taking steps to reduce patient anxiety, providing care in a warm and caring manner, limiting unnecessary conversations, and maintaining a professional environment.
· Facilitate successful completion of surgery by providing the surgeon with the correct instrumentation and general assistance as needed (e.g., irrigation, cutting suture, etc.)
· Remain attentive during procedures and anticipate surgeon and patient needs during and following the procedure.
· Utilize correct body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and/or tables to prevent injury to patient and others in the operating room.
· Break down and clean the operating room following the surgical procedure: remove trash and participate in stocking and restocking medical supplies.
· Inspect, replace, and sterilize medical instruments following surgical procedures in preparation for the next procedure.
· Excellent attendance and excellent customer service skills are a must!

Minimum Background Requirements:
· High school graduate or high school equivalency credential.
· Experience working in a health care setting preferred
