Join us to help administer and develop outreach programs to promote the Hawaiian Humane Society and foster a pet-friendly community! As an Outreach Pet Kokua Coordinator, you will organize the Pet Food Bank and Pili ʻOhana Day programs, build relationships with new program partners, recruit clients and assist with transport for Outreach spay/neuter days. You will also manage statistical and collateral materials and support additional outreach initiatives, including community veterinary clinics, Pet Visitation and the Pet Loss Support Group.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS:
- Program Management & Community Building: Serve as point person, including for partner and volunteer management, for Pet Food Bank locations and Outreach Pili Ohana Days. Evaluate, enhance, and manage these programs to strengthen and expand the relationship between the Hawaiian Humane Society and the community. Serve as backup to the Outreach Manager for activities related to these programs. Treat all people with compassion and respect.
- Pet Food Bank: Manage the Pet Food Bank program to ensure participants receive necessary support. Respond to inquiries from the public and individuals seeking assistance. Regularly update the Outreach Manager and Community Engagement team on program activities. Track inventory and flag inventory needs for Outreach Manager. Maintain and report program statistics. Collaborate with the Communications team to design and produce collateral.
- Outreach Spay and Neuter Days: Educate individuals on the importance of spaying/neutering their pets and urge them to participate in Outreach Spay/Neuter Days or low-fee programs such as Neuter Now. Ensure a positive experience for both pets and their guardians at clinics. Transport animals as needed, and always treating them safely, humanely, and with compassion. Training in vehicle operation, animal transport, and field processing will be provided.
- Outreach Pili ʻOhana Day: Organized and coordinate traveling Pet Food Bank days at designated locations chosen by the team in collaboration with outreach social workers, the Honolulu Police Department, and the Hawaiian Humane Society’s Field Operations and Response (FOPS) team to support people in need. Work together to help people keep their pets by providing necessary supplies including food, leashes, collars, crates and more.
- Administrative Reporting: Track and report statistics for programs under management and cross-train to support data collection and reporting for other Outreach programs. Collect and share event photos and participant stories to raise awareness and support. Maintain and analyze databases for Outreach Pet Food Bank Program participants. Cross-train with Outreach Manger to support budget tracking for the department. Prepare and analyze program reports for grant-funded Outreach initiatives. Communicate data analysis and findings clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Education & Recruitment Support: In partnership with the Outreach Manager, recruit partners, clients and resources for the Hawaiian Humane Society’s Outreach programs and the organization as a whole. Assist the manager in identifying and securing opportunities to promote all Outreach programs to general and specific audiences, such as social service organizations.
OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
- Collaborate with Community Engagement, FOPS, Operations, and Veterinary Services to enhance program awareness and execution. Recommend organizational improvements. Engage volunteers to support community outreach and education efforts.
- Collaborate with other departments as needed such as but not limited to participation in events, fundraising, and Hawaiian Humane Society's role as a first responder to disasters.
JOB CONDITIONS:
- Work environment: Indoors and outdoors as needed, varying locations and surfaces.
- Equipment Use: Frequent use of Hawaiian Humane Society and personal vehicles. PC computer, digital camera, printer, copier, telephone.
- Hours: Based on operational requirements. Must be available full-time and available to work over 40 hours, as needed, any 7 days of the week, weekends and holidays.

This includes a well-groomed and professional appearance, clean office areas, and exercising compassion, patience, and tact when dealing with difficult, emotional, or angry individuals. Requires handling both people and animals in a pleasant, courteous, and professional manner.
- Must have the ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and collect and analyze data.
- Requires occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and compassionately, both orally and in writing, when giving presentations, conducting interviews, and providing training and supervision. Requires excellent telephone skills.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Skills/Knowledge: Must be computer literate including but not limited to working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Have excellent oral and written communication skills, program coordination and organization skills, and data input and analysis skills. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced office and work with multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy. A valid driver’s license, good driving record, access to own automobile, and proof of no-fault insurance are required. Must be able to travel for presentations, events, and training as needed.
- Education/Training: A college degree or equivalent experience required.
- Experience: A minimum of two years’ experience working with the public is required. Experience with cause-oriented projects, volunteer management and mobilization, public speaking, and working with individuals with special needs preferred.
