PAYROLL PROCESSING/AUDITING ASSOCIATE – ID# 220238.​ 

 

Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Human Resources Department, Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i (RCUH) core staff located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

 

HOURLY RATE:  $25.00/Hr.

DUTIES: 

  • Responsible for the processing, transacting, and auditing of payroll and related actions.  
  • Performs reviews and audits to ensure compliance with State and Federal payroll and payroll related tax requirements and timesheet certification.  
  • Assists in payroll process, adjustments, benefit collections, and distribution.  
  • Assists in preparation and completion of payroll/tax accounting, payroll/tax reporting, and resolution of payroll problems, payroll distribution, deductions and adjustments.  
  • Assists with Human Resources Information System (HRIS) Payroll processing/operations for timely and accurate semi-monthly payroll.  
  • Payroll is processed semi-monthly. It is mandatory for all payroll staff to be present to work the three (3) critical days of the payroll processing cycle, which may include working additional hours to complete the payroll cycle. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Accounting.  

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three to five (3-5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in payroll processing, payroll administration, or payroll accounting, with familiarity with General Ledger reconciliation processes and payroll tax administration. 
  • Preference given to experience with computerized payroll processing (e.g., PeopleSoft/Oracle payroll systems) and reporting requirements. 

ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS​: 

  • Knowledge of institutional policies and procedures and fiscal/accounting systems.  
  • Considerable knowledge of Federal/State payroll requirements and State (Hawai‘i and other states) and Internal Revenue Service tax related rules, regulations, and reporting requirements (e.g., IRS Form 941, HW-6, tax levies, etc.). 
  • Knowledge of audit and internal control requirements associated with payroll processing/systems. 
  • Knowledge of non-resident alien tax regulations. 
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles/practices of extramural funding (Federal and State) and full range of payroll accounting practices/principles.  
  • Proficient with business personal computers/software applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word).  
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must have problem solving skills, judgment, and possess a high level of attention of detail.  
  • Ability to complete assignments efficiently, accurately, and independently. 
  • Ability to follow directions and complete work processes with thoroughness and accuracy. 
  • Use of general office equipment, 10-key by touch, business PC applications, internet, and data base software.  
  • Must be able to apply and interpret payroll tax laws. 
  • Ability to research and resolve discrepancies. 
  • Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check for working with highly confidential and sensitive information which includes being fingerprinted and having a federal background check performed.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Prior experience working in Human Resources and PeopleSoft HRIS/Payroll system.  
  • Familiar with RCUH policies and procedures. 
  • Strong knowledge of tax laws. 
  • Prior experience or knowledge of employee benefit plans or vendor payment processes. 
  • Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) or American Payroll Association certifications.
