Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with College of Natural Sciences, the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Plant Extinction Prevention (PEP) Program, located in Oahu, Hawai‘i.Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MONTHLY SALARY:  Salary commensurate with qualifications. 

DUTIES:  Responsible for general program support duties needed to effectively administer the Plant Extinction Prevention (PEP) Program. Coordinates the PEP Rare Plant Database by working collaboratively with PEP staff to ensure consistent and accurate data entry. Inputs, compiles, and analyzes field data, and prepares database outputs to facilitate fieldwork and project planning and reporting. Oversees on-line staff time reporting, processing of reimbursement andtravel requests, and vacationand sick leave requests, etc. Maintains staff training and certification records, and assists island programs with general purchasing. Writes and develops compelling outreach material for publication and public distribution, and serves as website manager. Outreach materials include press releases, website articles, displays, presentations, reports, and printed material that accurately relays botanical and program information. Prepares PEP presentations and displays, and coordinates field hikes and community events. Prepares camera-ready visuals and figures for publication. Assists with the preparation of grant proposals, permits, and annual and semi-annual funding reports. Receives and organizes monthly reports from island programs. Coordinates staff and partner meetings, and records and types up meeting minutes. Serves as meeting facilitator, and performs radio/phone checks with field staff, as needed. Drives to various meeting sites. Oversees petty cash expenses and works with the Statewide PEP Coordinators to track fiscal obligations. Performsotherdutiesasassigned,includingpo​ssibleassistanceinthe field with PEP staff or conservation partners. 




Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Botanical, Biological, or Environmental Science, or related field.


Three to five (3-5) years of experience working with conservationofbotanicalresourcesinHawai​i. Includesleasttwo(2)yearsof experienceindataorofficemanagementwithbud​getorganization and maintenance. (Master's Degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for three (3) years of experience in the conservation field).


Strong knowledge of Hawaiian plant species, conservation biology, and resource management practices. Knowledge office/business management practice.


Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Access, and Excel; Geographic Information Systems (GIS)-based program(s), and internet applications. Proficient communicator that is able to effectivelycommunicateboth orally and in writing, and comprehend complex verbal and written instructions. Ability to manage an office/project in an organized and efficient manner, and skilled to perform all job duties and responsibilities. Demonstrates keen attentiontodetail.Familiaritywithgraphicd​esignprogramssuchasAdobe Illustrator, InDesign, or Photoshop. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition:  Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check.


Ability to lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds of equipment and supplies for field work.

Master'sDegreefromanaccreditedcollege or university in Botanical, Biological, or Environmental Science with at least nine (9) credit hours of botanical coursework. Effective problem-solver, flexible, and committed to the goals of the PEP Program. Uses time efficiently. Experience developing or managing websites. Knowledge and experience with Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU) or Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i (RCUH) policies and procedures.Experience in biological field activities, project management and grant writing.Experience preparing written reports based on data interpretation.
