Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Department of Native Hawaiian Health (DNHH), Center for Native and Pacific Health Disparities Research (CNPHDR), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

 

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $6,000 - $8,000/Mon. 

 

DUTIES:  Provides senior-level project management, planning, coordination and implementation for clinical human research studies within the HoʻoMau Research Program. Responsible for research budget projections, program coordination, oversight of daily research operations, human subject protection and IRB (institutional review board) tracking, initiates research budgeting and purchasing supplies according to study protocol. Oversees coordination and liaison with Coordinating Center staff and conducts research protocols according to standardized outcomes. Oversees research staff and also capable of performing clinical procedures, collection of data, and follow through on study protocol activities as needed. Provides focused evaluation and critical thinking on clinical human research study efficiency and effectiveness including issues relevant to budgeting, quality assurance, protocol compliance and participant safety. Works in partnership with the multiple Principal Investigators (mPIs) to coordinate local research work meetings (regular or ad hoc). Attends national multi-site study meetings as assigned (steering, NIH, coordinating center, etc.). Assists and completes NIH-specific research administrative tasks and reports (eCONNECT, RPPR, biosketch, etc.). 

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Business Management, Clinical Research, Nursing or related health field (i.e., pharmacy, etc.).

EXPERIENCE

Four to six (4-6) years of experience in conducting and coordinating NIH-specific research study administrative tasks within the UH System research or academic environment, project management in a research study or evaluation (QA, QC) in a health or clinical research setting that involves human subjects. Includes working experience with conducting clinical research exams according to protocol (i.e., recruitment, enrollment, retention, etc.) and coordination of human subjects research. Working experience with extramurally funded clinical studies funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other similar federal agencies.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge and understanding of one (1) or more disciplines of public health, business management, health administration or health disparities research. Extensive knowledge and interpersonal skills for working with ethnic minority communities, organizations, and leaders about health issues. Good working knowledge of NIH-specific grants administration.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

Must have strong self-motivation and self-initiative as well as timely follow through. Superior program planning skills, including project coordination, and pre- and post- award management. Ability to plan and organize activities for faculty, students and grassroots community members. Strong skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to various levels of research team (i.e. mPIs, Core Leaders, etc.). Proficient in electronic communications, such as e-mail, social media platforms (Facebook, twitter, etc.), Google Drive, web/Internet enabled work processes. Proficient with word processing (i.e. Word), spreadsheet (i.e. Excel) and presentation (i.e. PowerPoint, Canva, etc.), reference manager software (Zotero) programs. Ability to solve problems independently using sound clinical judgement. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition:Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must complete the Collaborative InstitutionalTrainingInitiative(CITI)HumanSubjecttrainingwithinthree(3) monthsfromdateofhire.Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within 30 days from date of hire, and re-certify annually. Must be able to complete the Workplace Violence Prevention training within 30 days from date of hire, and re-certify annually. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months. 

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds unassisted.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:    

 

Doctoral Degree from an accredited college or university in relevant public health, clinical or epidemiological discipline. Prior experience in working with UH Manoa or JABSOM administrative processes and procurement. At least one (1) year of NIH-specific research grant administrative processes involving human subjects.
