POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER (TRANSLATIONAL MEDICINE STUDY) – ID# 220402.​ 

 

John A. Burns School of Medicine.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Office of Biostatistics & Quantitative Health Sciences, Department of Quantitative Health Sciences, located at the University of Hawai‘i (UH) at Manoa, Kaka‘ako Campus in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

 

MONTHLY SALARY:  Salary commensurate with qualifications. 

 

DUTIES:  Mainly focuses on National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded translational medicine study and identifying biomarkers for early detection of cancer and prediction of clinical outcomes of cancer treated with different strategies. The projects are highly valuable for clinical use with potential industrial application as well as with great basic scientific knowledge. Further investigates the function and mechanism of newly recognized targets based on human patient samples using in vitro and in vivo models. Performs with one (1) or more of the most updated "omic" technologies including transcriptomics, epigenomics and next generation sequencing. Participates in bioinformatics data analysis. Interacts with medical doctors and research scientists at the UH to facilitate personalized medicine development through interpreting large amounts of data. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals. Oversees graduate students. 

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  PhD from an accredited college or university in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.  EXPERIENCE:  None.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Knowledge of advanced molecular biology techniques applicable to clinical research. Familiar with medical terminology. Must be able to present a publication record.  Strong molecular biology experimental skills.  Ability to be flexible to attend to multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Post Offer/Employment Condition:  Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check.  Must complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Human Subject training within three (3) months from date of hire. Must complete online forty (40) hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training within two (2) weeks from date of hire or may be subject to termination. Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee’s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals.  PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must be able to lift/carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to the University of Hawai‘i’s JABSOM HIPAA/PHI privacy and security policy. Violation of the RCUH's, the UH's, or the business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). Must complete the University of Hawai‘i’s JABSOM HIPAA/PHI privacy and security training immediately after hire or not later than employee’s initial exposure to HIPAA/PHI. Must maintain a current status on the University’s and/or the business entity's training requirements.

 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge of bioinformatics.  Three to five (3-5) years of experience in dealing with human samples and cell culture.  Experience in writing proposals.
