Pandemic Response Expansion Project (PREP)
Office of Health Equity (OHE) Epidemiologist
Salary commensurate w/ training and experience
Â
Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment. The purpose of the OHE is to advance health equity by: 1) assessing and monitoring population health and identifying health disparities; 2) engaging stakeholders to develop policies, systems, and environmental change improvements to eliminate health inequities; 3) evaluating and monitoring efforts; and 4) reassessing strategies with the continuous engagement of key stakeholders. The PREP OHE Epidemiologist will 1) conduct basic epidemiologic functions, including collecting, linking, analyzing, and maintaining surveillance data, with a focus on improving the collection of health equity data, conducting epidemiological studies, and implementing evaluations; 2) develop mapping and reporting tools to communicate data with the OHE Advisory Group and other stakeholders to inform effective interventions and policy development; and 3) provide support in meeting the surveillance, evaluation, and reporting requirements of the “National Initiative to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities Among Populations at High-Risk and Underserved, Including Racial and Ethnic Minority Populations and Rural Communities†grant.

Minimum Qualification(s)
Â
EDUCATION:Â Master's degree in Epidemiology or a health-related field is required. The candidate must have completed and passed at least three (3) epidemiological methods courses, one of which must be at an advanced level, and at least two (2) biostatistics courses requiring mastery of large datasets and analyses using statistical software (such as SAS or SPSS). Each qualifying course should have fulfilled a minimum of two (2) credit hours.

EXPERIENCE: Â One (1) year of professional level work experience as an Epidemiologist conducting epidemiological analysis and program evaluation activities.
Â
ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTIONS: A doctoral degree in Epidemiology or a health-related field that included at least three (3) research methods courses, one of which must be at an advanced level, and at least two (2) statistics courses requiring mastery of large datasets and analyses using statistical software such as SAS or SPSS may be substituted for the required experience. Each qualifying course should have fulfilled a minimum of two (2) credit hours.

LICENSE:  Valid State of Hawaii Type III driver’s license preferred.
