Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Conservation Planning Program for Endangered Species Protection, located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY: $3,654/Mon.
DUTIES: Assists with researching and reviewing Environmental Assessments (EA) and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), project plans, and work plans. Assists with development of avoidance and minimization measures. Coordinates guidance development with branch offices. Communicates guidance to project proponents. Assists Habitat Conservation Planning (HCP) staff with preparation and execution of Endangered Species Recovery Committee (ESRC), agency, public meetings and all site visits. Coordinates noticing for these meetings. Develops and produces board packets, meeting minutes, or other meeting materials. ProducesHCP Program relatedcommunications,website updates,organizes/managesprojectdata/information, and produces analysis. Performs data entry and updates database and geospatial records. Researches the best available science related to protected species management, habitat management, invasive species management, landscape level conservation, and monitoring protocols. Assists with conducting compliance reviews of permitted projects, to include on-site inspections of facilities and field/mitigation sites, and assistsinmonitoringincidentaltakelicenses per statute.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Natural Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Planning, or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Up to one (0-1) year of experience in field or laboratory activities related to natural resources management.
KNOWLEDGE:
Basic knowledge of the principles of research and data collection, natural resource management, or environmental policy.
ABILITIES & SKILLS:
Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with government agencies, contractors, partners, business interests, and the general community. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively across several projects while remaining adaptable and organized in a fast-paced work environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to travel to neighboring islands. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must possess the American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain the certificate following the training provided within three (3) months from date of hire) and maintain throughout duration of employment. Must be able to complete basic helicopter safety course within three (3) months from date of hire.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to hike and operate in remote locations.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Natural Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Planning, or related field. Experience with basic data entry and verification of data integrity (QA/QC), writing academic reports or essays, or technical summaries as part of college level coursework. Experience with outreach. Knowledge of native ecosystems, protected species, and conservation issues in Hawaiʻi. Knowledge of protected species avoidance and minimization measures, and monitoring in relation to development projects. Experience working in potentially contentious situations with people of diverse backgrounds.
