Job Description

 

The Packer position is responsible for performing the day-to-day operations of the Home Delivery program including: managing inventory, preparing and packing meals, and providing support to volunteers.  This includes maintaining service standards, supporting a safe work environment including protecting program data, and managing the available resources.  The Packer supports the mission, vision and values of the organization and meeting the goals and objectives of Lanakila Pacific and our funders.  The Packer supports the mission, vision and values of the organization, and upholds and enforces the guidelines and policies of the organization and demonstrates Lanakila Pacific’s values of teamwork, excellence, achievement and motivation in all personal interactions and exemplifies Lanakila’s STAR service standards.  

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Position Specific Duties

  • Work under the supervision of the Meals on Wheels Manager and Home Delivery Supervisor to ensure daily packing operations is successful in completing each day’s packing and is prepared to operate smoothly the next shift(s).
  • Prepare and check all information needed including packing lists/labels, routes, meal adjustment forms, and volunteer roster. 
  • Check required supplies daily.  Submit timely supply requests to supervisor to ensure there are sufficient supplies in stock for operations.  
  • Set-up and and break-down work areas including tables, racks, carts, delivery bags, supplies, etc.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.  Remove tripping hazards/obstacles, clean and sanitize insulated bags, coolers, tables, counters and other equipment frequently. Sweep and mop floors, break-down and remove trash from work areas.  Clean and assist with maintaining company vehicles.  Immediately report to supervisor any safety issues or issues with the vehicles, equipment, or facilities.
  • Prep and pack meals and other items for delivery to program customers.  Check bags and verify route information to ensure accuracy; correct discrepancies immediately.
  • Load and unload vehicles.  Ensure items are accurately packed per destination timely and in very good condition.
  • Conduct food temperature checks and quality checks at each stage of out-going and returning meals; record information; discard meals that are not held at a safe temperature or are damaged.
  • Unpack and reinventory returned items from unsuccessful deliveries. 
  • Conduct daily and month-end inventory, including reporting discarded inventory, returned inventory, discrepancies in the counts to supervisor.
  • Smile and greet all volunteers, customers, and caregivers encountered.  Maintain a friendly and approachable demeaner when interacting with others.
  • Assist with and supporting volunteers.  Ensure volunteers operate within Lanakila’s policies and procedure and meet Lanakila’s service standards.
  • Assist volunteers and customers who have a question or issue with their service and seek to resolve issues to all parties’ satisfaction.  Communicate resolution and document in program records.  Demonstrate and explain procedures and program updates both timely and communicated appropriately for the audience. 
  • Assist with collecting personal information and feedback/satisfaction surveys from customers for program reports, program evaluation, and marketing purposes.
  • Ensure volunteers have proper items and supplies to successful complete their duties.
  • Provide coverage in the absence of volunteers.
  • Support volunteer appreciation and recognition.
  • Provides timely and appropriate aide to any customer or volunteer who needs medical assistance or is otherwise in distress.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/HOURS: 

 

  • Scheduled to work 5 days a week. Monday to Friday 3.5 -.8-hour shifts. May be required to work outside of normal business hours including weekends and holidays to meet operational needs and contract requirements. 
  • Indoor, office setting.  
  • Work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Works with a diverse group of people and at times under difficult situations.

  

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required:

 

  • Experience: One year working in operations, warehouse, delivery, merchandising, manufacturing, retail or other closely related work environment.
  • Clearance/Certification: 1) TB clearance, 2) Criminal background check, 3) Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing; 4) Child Protective Services/Adult Protective background check.
  • CPR/First Aid; Department of Health Food Handlers Safety (Obtain on the job)

 

Preferred:

 

  • Education: High school diploma or Certificate of completion or equivalent
  • Experience:  One year working in a human services program or direct customer service serving the elderly and/or disabled; or working in customer service; or food service experience.
