Job Description

We're seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Parent Consultant who will serve as a vital bridge between families and educational systems.

In this rewarding role, you will have the privilege of walking alongside parents and families who have children at risk of or with disabilities, empowering them to become effective advocates for their child's educational success. Whether families are navigating private, public, or charter school systems, you'll be their trusted guide and champion, providing the support, knowledge, and resources they need to ensure their children receive the best possible education.

Responsibilities

Your days will be filled with meaningful work as you provide direct support to families through one-on-one consultations, helping them understand their rights and options within the educational system. You'll deliver engaging training sessions and workshops that equip parents with advocacy skills and knowledge about special education processes. Building strong, trusting relationships with families will be at the heart of everything you do as you guide them through Individualized Education Program meetings, evaluations, and other critical educational planning sessions. You'll connect families with valuable community resources and services that complement their child's educational needs. Additionally, you'll collaborate with schools, educators, and other professionals to facilitate positive outcomes for students, while maintaining detailed records of your consultations and tracking family progress. Your role will also include developing and distributing informational materials that make complex special education concepts accessible to all families.

Requirements

The ideal candidate brings a comprehensive understanding of special education laws, regulations, and practices specific to Hawaii. You must be a natural champion for families, demonstrating unwavering commitment to family-centered advocacy and empowerment. Exceptional family engagement skills are essential, including the ability to build rapport with diverse families from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, will enable you to explain complex educational concepts in clear, understandable terms. You should possess excellent active listening skills and demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness. The ability to work independently while managing multiple cases simultaneously is crucial. Proficiency with technology and database systems for documentation and reporting is required. Flexibility in scheduling, including occasional evening or weekend availability to accommodate family needs, is necessary. Fluency in languages other than English is highly valued and will strengthen your ability to serve our diverse community.

Education

A Bachelor's degree in education, special education, social work, sociology, or a closely related field is required for this position.
