Job Description

The Parent Consultant is responsible for providing information, referral, technical assistance and advocacy to parents of children at risk of, or with disabilities.  The Parent Consultant conducts parent and professional training on Oahu and Neighbor Islands on special education roles, rights and responsibilities.  IEP development, disabilities awareness and other related topics.  Evening and weekend work may be required.

A Parent Consultant will possess great people skills, ability to learn detailed curricula, conduct research and have public speaking abilities.  This person will be able to work independently and as well as being a part of the team, is adaptable to change, demonstrates tremendous initiative, and is ready for a challenging and rewarding experience.

 

A Parent Consultant will have personal experience and knowledge of Hawaii’s special education system and related Federal and State laws, and experience conducting presentations and trainings in the community.  A degree in special education, human services, or related field is highly desired
