Job Summary:
A Parent Partner is an individual who has been involved with child welfare, child in need of protection or services, juvenile courts and alcohol and other drugs’ systems. They have been successful at navigating those systems, have come to terms with their past involvement and continue to be successful in their recovery. The Parent Partner is responsible for mentoring parents currently involved with child welfare and/or other systems. The Parent Partner will provide advocacy, support and referral services to participants. Parent Partners have a willingness and genuine interest in sharing their experiences, expertise and wisdom to help other parents succeed and to educate the parents, those working in the systems and members of the community. Parent Partners are committed to help keep the youth safe. Provide neutral parent support to parents in our Family Wrap (CWS) programs. Work closely with assigned children’s parent/caregivers to present their best interest. Assists parents in developing positive problem solving skills. Models appropriate behavioral interventions. Accompany parents to important meetings (i.e., court proceedings). Assists in providing field contacts and ensures participant’s access to services; assists parents and caretakers in linking to community services. Provides guidance to parents and caregivers to help them manage existing resources and access needed resources. Develops and maintains positive, supportive relationships with parents and acts as a liaison between participants and community resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Provide neutral parent support to parents in our Family Wrap (CWS) programs.
- Work closely with assigned children’s parent/caregivers to present their best interest.
- Assists parents in developing positive problem solving skills.
- Models appropriate behavioral interventions.
- Accompany parents to important meetings (i.e., court proceedings).
- Assists in providing field contacts and ensures participant’s access to services; assists parents and caretakers in linking to community services.
- Provides guidance to parents and caregivers to help them manage existing resources and access needed resources.
- Develops and maintains positive, supportive relationships with parents and acts as a liaison between participants and community resources.
- Further parent engagement in the Wrap process.
- Participate in Wrap meetings and/or other meetings and trainings as deemed appropriate.
- Responsible for recording in meetings, when needed.
- Responsible for occasionally providing childcare, when necessary.
- General office work as needed (filing, phone calls, database work, faxing and typing).
OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS
- Perform other related duties, as required and assigned.
- Regular attendance, required.
- Responsible for awareness and adherence to all company and safety policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate at trainings, all staff meetings, and individual supervision, as scheduled.
- Recommend improvements and/or enhancements of job processes and work environment to ensure high quality levels of service deliverables.
- Addresses appropriate needs with supervisor and/or manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Personal experience as a parent with a child who has been in the Child Welfare System or other, related systems.
- Prepared to use that lived experience in helping other parents currently navigating the system(s).
- First-hand experience dealing with child welfare, including behavioral mental health, special education, and/or recovery systems.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of one (1) year related experience and/or training.
- Ability to manage time well and work independently.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
- Must maintain an ethical, responsible and professional attitude and demeanor under all circumstances at all times.
- Team player with a positive attitude and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Committed to quality and performance improvement.
- Valid driver’s license, no-fault automobile insurance, acceptable motor vehicle abstract2, and access to an insured, reliable vehicle is needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior parent advocacy experience desirable.
Pay:
- $18 to $19 per hour, commensurate with experience
