Want to join the ALTRES team? Our busy accounting department is looking for a Payroll Tax Assistant to provide valuable support in a variety of tax-related duties.


We need someone who can succeed in a fast-paced work environment and learn new tasks quickly. You will also need to be proficient using Microsoft Excel. Previous payroll tax experience is not required but general accounting skills and familiarity with MasterTax and Davison software are a plus.

Additional Responsibilities:


  • Review payroll import files and reconcile to payroll register reports and quarterly tax filings for new account set ups.
  • Research tax laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures.
  • Review VISA paperwork and determine applicable tax exemptions and provide the appropriate guidance to payroll and HR employees.
  • Review various tax exemption paperwork for adequacy and appropriateness.
  • Review/establish payroll and deduction codes and provide determination on the appropriate taxation.
  • Compute and prepare semi-weekly federal and state payroll tax deposits.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual federal and state payroll tax returns and reconcile to payroll registers and reports.
  • Prepare and review quarterly client tax packages.
  • Year-end review of company and client payroll reports for W-2 preparation.
  • Review and respond to inquiries from tax agencies, internal staff and clients relating to tax matters.
  • Assist payroll staff in processing tax adjustments.
  • Obtain appropriate agency tax forms for all new accounts.
  • Enter/review/process third party sick pay information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in payroll tax filings or accounting a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, particularly with Excel required.
  • Familiarity with MasterTax and Davison a plus.
  • High level of accuracy and problem-solving skills.
