Job Description
Job Summary
Pacific Impact Zone (PIZ) is seeking a Product Owner for our Distributed Manufacturing Platform, designed to address one of the most complex challenges in modern defense: sustaining operations when centralized supply chains are disrupted or unavailable.
This role sits at the intersection of operational problem ownership and hands-on platform development. You will work directly with developers to translate mission needs into buildable requirements, guide platform development, and ensure solutions stay grounded in real-world operational constraints.
This is a hands-on execution role, not a strategy-only or architecture position. The ideal candidate understands how logistics fails in contested environments and is motivated to build practical, operational solutions.
Key Responsibilities Platform Product Ownership
- Own the product backlog, priorities, and day-to-day decisions for the platform
- Translate operational needs into clear, actionable requirements
- Work closely with developers to guide build decisions and tradeoffs
Operational Concept Development
- Develop and refine distributed manufacturing concepts for contested environments
- Integrate production, logistics, fulfillment, and quality workflows
- Engage mission partners to validate and improve real-world applicability
Systems Thinking & Execution
- Maintain a system-level view across manufacturing nodes, supply inputs, and logistics constraints
- Identify gaps, risks, and misalignment early; drive resolution
- Document decisions and contribute to PIZ’s long-term capability in contested logistics
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience; military experience applicable)
- Direct experience in DoD logistics, sustainment, or supply chain operations
- Proven ability to own complex workstreams and deliver outcomes in ambiguous environments
- Strong systems thinking across multi-variable operational problems
- Technical fluency to work effectively with software development teams
Preferred
- Familiarity with distributed manufacturing or production systems
- Exposure to biomanufacturing or advanced manufacturing concepts
Personal Attributes
- Mission-driven; focused on real-world impact to operations and Warfighters
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and building structure from incomplete information
- Able to balance strategic intent with hands-on execution
- Direct communicator, willing to challenge assumptions when needed
- Committed to documentation and knowledge sharing
Work Environment
Full-time, exempt position.
This role may be in-person or hybrid remote, with preference for candidates based in or willing to work from Honolulu, Hawaii.
Remote team members must maintain availability during 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM HST.
Periodic travel required. Relocation support may be offered for highly qualified candidates.
Benefits
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Short-term and long-term disability
- Retirement plan with employer match
- Paid time off and holidays
