Program Coordinator- Conservation Leadership Development Program 




Kupu is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that aims to empower youth to serve their communities through character building, service learning, and environmental stewardship. Kupu aims to train and equip young adults in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Rim with work skills, life skills, and knowledge to help them become successful as individuals and as part of the greater community. Kupu is staffed by people with a heart to better Hawaii while working as a team with a purpose of doing what is pono and doing what is best for Hawaii and its people. Kupu is a team-focused, vibrant, and synergistic organization whose culture is dynamic and seeks to make a larger impact on Hawaii.

Program Goals

Kupu aims to provide training and education to youth throughout Hawaii and the Pacific in the field of natural resource stewardship.


The Program partners with host site agencies across the Pacific in providing a stewardship program that help to expose youth to natural resource stewardship issues and develop an environmental mindset. Each stewardship placement is a paid internship in natural resource management that aids in community development through skills training, civic engagement, and career pathway development.

Position Duties


The Program Coordinator position is a full-time position that includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:


Assist in developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating program needs, goals, programs, delivery systems, and outcomes as follows:


·       Effectively coordinate programs and members under ProgramManager/Executive Director

·       Ensure that programs run smoothly andefficiently

·       Oversee, organize, and coordinate programlogistics

·       Monitor members and partneringsites

·       Provide guidance and/or resources to members that will assist them in their educational pursuits and life success; this might include career counseling, developingtransitionplans,andotherareasof​careerpathwaydevelopment



·        Assist with member recruitment, interview, and selection process for allprograms

·        Conduct/attend presentations and sitevisits

·        Recruit partnering host sites

·        Ensure that positions arefilled 


·        Planning, setting up, and attending events or specialprojects

·        Creating and disseminating outreachmaterials

·        Maintaining/assisting with social media, website, and other outreachtools

Orientation and Training

·        Assist with facilitation and planning of orientations and trainings for all programs

·        Train inexperienced staff, incorporatingculture

·        Create orientation/training folders formembers

·        Coordinate logistics for trainings andorientations


Data and Administrative Tasks

·        Help to ensure appropriate and valuable data is collected in a timelymanner

·        Ensure members and sites are fulfilling their requirements by submitting timesheets, evaluations, surveys, and other paperwork in a timelymanner

·        Prepare data forreporting

·        Maintain statistical information on programperformance


Follow Up/Program Development

·        Evaluate program and improve operations-streamline &simplify

·        Ensure healthy partnerships are maintained, unhealthy ones are improved, and new ones aredeveloped

·        Maintain healthy communication with members andsites

·        Track results and long-termimpacts

·        Ensure that programs run smoothly andefficiently

·        Travel throughout the State to meet with members and sites, as well as to promote Kupu’s programs

·        Assist with and attend recognitionevents

·        Assist in mentoring program participants to ensure their internship is positive and their post-program transition is asuccess


Supplies Management

·        Oversight and tracking of large inventories ofsupplies

·        Ordering new supplies while adhering to Kupu’s internal financial and procurementpolicies

·        Completing necessary forms, including payment requests, per financialpolicies

·        Coordinating the distribution and reception ofsupplies

·        Coordination of supplies maintenance (repairs, cleaning,etc.)

·        Researching and implementing regulations regarding supplies (e.g. ensuring correct logos are displayed onclothing)

·        Management of suppliesbudget

Other duties as needed


Program Coordinator Requirements

Program Coordinator must meet the following minimum requirements:


·        Available full-time Monday through Friday, as well as for possible weekends, evenings,and periodic neighbor island travel

·        Meet Kupu’s criminal history checkrequirements

·        Possess a valid driver’s license and meet Kupu’s driving abstractrequirements

·        Possess at minimum a high schooldiploma

·        High computer/Microsoft Office skilllevel

·        Experience in running programs orevents

·        Extremely detail-oriented andthorough

·        Team player with leadership qualities or managerialskills

·        Effective communicator with a positiveattitude

·        Multi-taskingabilities

·        Be able to show goodjudgment

·        A life learner with excellent problem solvingskills

·        Excellent interpersonal relationshipskills



The Program Coordinator is preferred, but not required, to have the following:

·        Bachelor’s degree orhigher

·        Experience or interest in working with people of multiple generations and in environmental conservation

Compensation and Benefits: Starting at $35,000, based on education and experience level.
