Job Description

SUMMARY:  The primary role and responsibility of a project engineer is to provide the administrative support to the project team of a commercial general contractor

 

RESPONSIBILITIES


COST REPORTING

Establish cost report breakdown with input from project team

Measure/Input quantities in cost report

Forecast cost variances on a monthly basis per project

 

PROJECT RECORDS 

Maintain all project documentation to include the following: 

Contract Documents

Subcontracts

Purchase Orders

Delivery Tags

Invoices

Correspondence

RFI’s

Logs

Submittals

Pay Requests

Meeting Minutes

Contract and Subcontract Change Orders

Prepare all project documentation for archival when appropriate

 

PURCHASING

Solicit competitive pricing on all materials purchased

Confirm materials meet specification requirements

Review substantial purchases with project team prior to commitment

Prepare all Purchase Orders

Maintain Purchase Order log

Check deliveries against delivery tags

Cost code invoices and attach delivery tag for processing by Accounting

 

CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION

Review and understand Prime Contract commitments, obligations, dates and deliverables

Prepare all change orders to the prime contract with input from project team

Prepare subcontracts with input from project team

Confirm subcontract language conforms with prime contract and construction documents

Prepare all change orders to subcontracts with input from project team

Maintain change order log for prime and subcontracts

 

SUBMITTALS

Prepare submittal log (see master forms)

Solicit submittals as required and in the order of project needs with an awareness of lead times 

Review all submittals for conformance to construction documents

Review all submittals for correct dimensions, compatibility and completeness

Transmit submittals per project submittal process and track

 

SCHEDULING

Prepare project schedule with input from project team

Maintain a current project schedule, update weekly to track progress

Transmit schedule information to subcontractors on a periodic basis to keep them current with project progress and requirements

Alert project team regarding schedule slippage or milestone events in jeopardy

Prepare detailed three week schedule on a weekly basis

 

PAY REQUESTS

Prepare pay requests for submission to Owner; include lien release and all required backup

Review and correct or approve subcontractor pay requests as appropriate

 

MONTHLY PROJECT REPORTING

 Prepare a monthly project report to include the following:

Project highlights

Owner issues

Updated schedule

Updated project logs

Updated cost forecast

 

MEETINGS

Conduct weekly team meetings, maintain records

Conduct weekly OAC meetings, maintain records

Conduct subcontractor buyout meetings prior to award

 

RELATIONSHIPS 

Maintain professional relationships with the following:

Project team members

Owner or Owners Representatives

Design team members

Subcontractors

Inspectors

Union officials

 

PROJECT CLOSEOUT 

Assure timely completion of all punchlist corrections 

Assure completion and submission of all closeout requirements 

As built drawings

Maintenance manuals and materials

Final pay application

 

Provide information at project after action review
