Job Description

RESEARCH FACILITIES SUPPORT TECHNICIAN – ID# 18549.<​/strong> 

 

John A. Burns School of Medicine.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

 

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $2,649 - $4,918/Mon. 

 

DUTIES:  Provides operational support specifically related to research for the JABSOM Biosciences Building in the areas of electrical, boiler, and mechanical heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC), and plumbing operations.  Handles daily work order requests to address corrective repairs from research end-users relating to vivarium, Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2), Animal Biosafety Level 3 (ABSL-3) and Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) lab operations.Occasionally assist in the daily functions of mail and receiving operations. 

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Associate’s Degree or certification from an accredited community college or trade school in A/C Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, or a related field.  EXPERIENCE:  At least five (5) years of experience as a repair technician.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Functional knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in building operations.  Basic understanding in reading architectural/engineering plans to locate specific areas to investigate areas of repairing.  Knowledge of troubleshooting.  Working knowledge of boiler operations.  Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes, and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of building operations.  Ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.  Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members, and individuals. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Ability to operate a full-size van and truck.  Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to meet Center for Disease Control (CDC) requirements for access into Animal Biosafety Level 3 (ABSL-3) and Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) labs, which includes being fingerprinted and having a federal background check performed prior to date of hire and maintained throughout duration of employment.  PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds.
