Position: Coordinator of Religious Education
Supervisor: Pastor
Status: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt
Salary: Diocesan pay scale commensurate with experience, statutory benefits
Overall Responsibility
To organize the parish catechetical program and assist the parish community with the building of a solid foundation of catechetical ministry and faith formation.
Position Summary
· Organizes, plans, and coordinates the Religious Education (RE) program for pre‐school through 5th Grade, including all sacramental preparation for children grades Pre-K through 5.
· Collaborates with the Youth Ministry Coordinator to ensure both the RE program and the Youth Program are aligned in keeping with the Pastors’ vision.
· Orders and maintains teaching materials and resources for the RE program.
· Reports monthly to the Pastor.
· Meets weekly with parish staff for planning and coordination of parish programs.
· Recruits volunteer catechists, provides them with the requisite training and administrative support and timely feedback.
· Serves as Safe Environment Liaison.
· Attends professional RE courses to stay abreast of Catholic Faith requirements.
· Plans and teaches Baptismal instruction classes and prepares the requisite Baptismal certificates.
· Prepare and assist the Pastor with sacramental celebrations.
· Collaborates with the school to help plan student retreats for sacramental preparation.
· Supports ad hoc Parish office activities as needed thus working together as a team with the Parish Office.
· Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
· Active, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church.
· Knowledge of Catholic catechesis/teachings
· College Education preferred, but not required
· Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
Physical requirements
· Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and moving items.
Scheduling requirements
· Entails weekend and periodic evening work.
