                                                            Senior Accountant III 



Kupu is a 501c3 nonprofit organization which aims to empower youth to serve their communities through character building, service learning, and environmental stewardship. Kupu aims to train and equip young adults in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Rim with work skills, life skills, and knowledge to help them become successful as individuals and as part of the greater community.  Kupu is staffed by people with a heart to better Hawaii while working as a team with a purpose of doing what is pono and doing what is best for Hawaii and its people. Kupu Mission:

Accounting and Finance Department:

The accounting and finance department of Kupu supports all Kupu programs and administration. The department provides financial reports to program heads, head of organizations, Kupu Board of Directors and funding partners, plans budgets and forecasting, conducts strategic planning, oversees expense allocation and is the liaison with our outsourced human resources and payroll provider. 


Senior Accountant Duties: This position is full-time and includes the following duties: 

  • Process recurring contractual accounts payable transactions with extensive allocation  
  • Liaison with vendors and related entities to ensure proper allocation of recurring expenses 
  • Prepare Month-end and Year-end closing entries 
  • Compile financial reporting by fund and program  
  • Maintain, Troubleshoot, and Report Building in Accounting System (Sage Intacct) 
  • Assist with Grant Reporting on financial data 
  • Manage grant budget data in Accounting System 
  • Assist with preparation of audit schedules and provide information requested by auditors 
  • Other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization 


Supervisor: Controller 



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the accounting field  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro 
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Conducts self in a professional and ethical manner 
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and organizational skills 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information 
  • Ability to independently research accounting guidance, federal regulations, tax regulations, and business best practice to ensure compliance of financial reporting 
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff and management team  
  • Exhibits a willingness to learn 
  • Demonstrates commitment to meet deadlines 



  • Supervisory experience 
  • Proficiency with Sage Intacct 
  • Self-motivated with an ability to follow through and complete assigned projects 
  • Detail oriented with good analytic and communication skills 
  • Experience or interest in environmental conservation  
  • Experience in a non-profit setting  
  • Experience in Federal Funding requirements and reporting
