Liliha Healthcare Center is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative Staff Development Coordinator/Infection Preventionist (SDC/IP) to join or team. The Staff Development Coordinator responsible for planning, implementing, and conducting staff education, training and in-services for the facility’s staff. This position ensures that all mandatory training requirements are fulfilled. This individual is responsible for participation in staff development programs to ensure the development and implementation of facility policies, procedures and standards of practice. As the Infection Preventionist, this individual is responsible for maintaining compliance with infection control standards and regulatory requirements.
Staff Development Coordinator Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Assess training needs and create annual education plans for clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Develop and deliver orientation and onboarding programs for all new employees.
- Conduct in-service training sessions on topics such as resident care, safety, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and infection control.
- Maintain documentation of all training and educational activities in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Track certifications and licensure renewals (e.g., CNA, CPR, etc.) and coordinate recertification efforts.
- Serve as a clinical resource for staff and assist with skills competencies and performance improvement plans.
- Support the DON in quality assurance initiatives and staff performance evaluations.
Infection Preventionist Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Oversight of the Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP).
- Maintain an antibiotic stewardship program that includes antibiotic use and protocols and a system to monitor antibiotic use.
- Conduct surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and report trends and outcomes to the DON and Quality Assurance Committee.
- Investigate outbreaks and recommend measures to prevent transmission.
- Ensure proper isolation precautions and standard infection control practices are followed.
- Maintain records and documentation in accordance with CDC, CMS, OSHA, and local/state health department guidelines.
- Collaborate with environmental services and dietary departments to maintain hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Lead annual infection control risk assessments and develop action plans.
- Monitor staff compliance with hand hygiene, PPE use, and infection control policies through audits and observations.
- Coordinate vaccinations, TB testing, and other infectious disease screenings for staff and residents.
Qualifications:
- Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Hawaii.
- Must have, as a minimum, one (1) year of experience working as an RN in a skilled nursing facility.
- Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long-term care.
- Strong knowledge of nursing skills sets (i.e. managing PICC lines, tube-feeding procedures, medication administration, IV’s, assessment skills, documentation, care planning, wound management, etc.) with the ability to demonstrate, teach, and evaluate competency.
- Current CPR certification.
- TB clearance in accordance with the State of Hawaii, Department of Health, TB requirements.
