Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Chief Advancement Officer, the Stewardship Manager creates and implements a comprehensive donor engagement and stewardship program to support the Honolulu Museum of Art’s fundraising goals. With a focus on deepening donor relationships, this position ensures consistent, thoughtful, and systematic stewardship that communicates impact, expresses appreciation, and encourages continued support. The Stewardship Manager manages a portfolio of individual donors, developing and executing personalized strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward annual and one-time gifts through well-crafted appeals, timely follow-up, and meaningful donor experiences in collaboration with colleagues across the institution.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three to five years of experience in fundraising and development, or equivalent combination of related education and experience, including experience with high-touch patron/client relationship management.
  • Strong background and demonstrated success in fundraising, particularly with individual, long-term donors, and experience growing relationships over time.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to produce strong written copy and comfortably interface with a variety of supporters from multiple backgrounds.
  • Strong administrative and project management skills, with an emphasis on the ability to plan, organize, and implement multiple outreach efforts simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Suite and CRM databases.
  • Honesty, integrity, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment, enthusiasm, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification.
  • Strong proficiency in Tessitura.
  • Experience in a museum, arts and culture, or nonprofit organization.
  • Understanding of and dedication to advancing the Honolulu Museum of Art’s identity, vision, and values.

Essential Duties

  • Oversees the stewardship plan for all existing supporters and donors. Maintains a portfolio of existing and potential donors.
  • Plans and implements new initiatives to attract, cultivate, and maintain individual donors, particularly long-term.
  • In partnership with the Advancement team, builds a pipeline of prospective donors by researching, identifying, and cultivating new prospects.
  • Addresses donor questions and concerns related to fund administration and beneficiaries, gift acknowledgements, and report requirements.
  • Represents the Honolulu Museum of Art at openings, events, and other opportunities in-house and in the community.
  • Works closely with the Events team to develop and implement donor recognition events to honor, thank, and inspire donors.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility through respectful communication and cooperation with others, continuous training, and the modeling of inclusive behaviors.
  • In partnership with HR, supports the leadership team in ensuring equitable experiences, strengthening inclusion acumen and promoting a culture of belonging that embraces the contributions of all staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Compensation
The Honolulu Museum of Art is committed to practicing salary transparency. The salary/range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 per annum. Please note that pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting pay, including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Working Conditions and Atmosphere:
Work takes place in an office environment. General office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with flexible scheduling as appropriate. Ability to operate general office equipment including computers, copiers, printers, etc. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, up to 25 pounds of general office material or equipment. Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.
