(Part-Time, On-Call Position)
Hanahau‘oli School seeks experienced and flexible educators to serve as Substitute Teachers across Junior Kindergarten through 6th-grade levels. Substitute Teachers are responsible for maintaining a safe, caring, and engaging environment while delivering pre-planned lessons and ensuring continuity of learning during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This position reports to the Director of Faculty & Curriculum.
Candidates must present a strong orientation to progressive philosophy and teaching methods and possess a solid understanding of child development. Substitute Teachers are expected to effectively support the school’s mission and beliefs, demonstrate flexibility and professionalism, and contribute to the joyful spirit of the school community.
Substitute Teachers are also expected to respond promptly to substitute requests and make every reasonable effort to accept assignments when available, in order to support the continuity and smooth operation of school life.

Hanahau‘oli is an independent school with 227 students in Junior Kindergarten through 6th grade. Junior Kindergarten and 6th grade are self-contained classrooms of 27 students, while K/1, 2/3, and 4/5 are multi-age learning spaces. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities are listed below; additional duties may be assigned as needed to support the functioning of the school.
- Deliver lessons and classroom activities as provided by the regular teacher, ensuring students remain engaged and productive.
- Maintain a classroom environment that respects each child's developmental level and supports learning and exploration.
- Manage classroom routines, expectations, and discipline in alignment with Hanahau‘oli’s philosophy of respect and encouragement.
- Communicate in a sensitive, professional manner with students, colleagues, and families as appropriate.
- Collaborate with colleagues and school administrators when needed to ensure a smooth and effective instructional day.
- Ensure the physical safety of all children by being vigilant, anticipating potential hazards, and responding appropriately to incidents.
- Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, preparedness, appropriate confidentiality, and positive engagement.
- Fulfill supervision duties such as recess, lunch, and carline as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or a related field required.
- Previous experience teaching or working with children in school settings strongly preferred.

- Flexibility to adapt to different grade levels and subjects as needed.
