Job Description

We are seeking a Part Time or Per Diem Surgical Assistant for our oculofacial surgery practice (Oculofacial Plastic Surgery of Hawaii). This position is a part time or per diem and we anticipate needing help on average about one to two times per week, typically on Thursdays.  We perform a broad range of eyelid and facial surgeries including blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, ectropion/entropion repair, Mohs reconstructions of the eyelid, brow and forehead lifts, face and neck lifts, fat transfer, liposuction, and more.


The ideal candidate must be caring, professional, self-motivated, a quick learner, good at multi-tasking, a good problem solver, and interested in aesthetics. You will play an important role in providing patient-centered care with the highest level of customer service and will join a team that is hard-working, fun, and passionate about our work. 


Dr. Bradford Lee was formerly a professor at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute / University of Miami School of Medicine (rated the #1 eye hospital in the USA) and is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.  You will enjoy working with him and his team, and he will teach you eyelid and facial anatomy, surgical techniques, and help you improve your professional skills as a surgical technologists by working with a world class team.


Hours: Per Diem or Part Time (typically Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 am to 4:30 pm)

Essential Duties:

·      Assist with surgeries under supervision of surgeon and circulating nurse

·      Set up procedure room or operating room

·      Prepare patients for surgery

·      Pass instruments to surgeon, retract, cut sutures, and count needles and instruments

·      Assist with instrument sterilization

·      Operate, assemble, adjust, and monitor surgical equipment

·      Perform patient intakes and obtain medical history

·      Take facial photos 

·      Medical documentation in EMR

·      Assist with removing sutures or staples

·      Maintain medical supplies inventory 

·      Explain procedures, medications, and instructions to patients

·      Cross-train to help with administrative activities like answering phones and scheduling


Qualifications and Experience:

·      At least 1-2 years of surgical assisting, preferably in ophthalmology, plastic surgery, or dermatology



·      This position requires a high school diploma (or GED or high school equivalence certificate). A post-secondary

       Certificate, awarded for training completed after high school is preferred.
