Regular, Part-Time (50% FTE), Limited-Term (not to exceed eleven (11) months in duration), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai‘i Maui College (UHMC), TRIO/Upward Bound Program, located on Molokai, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 


MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $1,285.50-$2,365/Mon. (@50% FTE).


DUTIES:  Assists with the operation of the Upward Bound program at the University of Hawai‘i Maui College (UHMC), which serves 205 students at seven (7) Maui County high schools. Advises 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade program participants in career exploration activities, preparation for standardized tests, and research of post-secondary options, with the goal of college enrollment immediately after high school graduation. Assists with recruiting, interviewing, and orienting new program participants. Plans and implements curriculum and activities throughout the academic year, including monthly Saturday Academy workshops, for participants according to program objectives and requirements. Conducts annual needs assessment, creates individualized plan of service, monitors and documents participants’ progress in activities designed to promote successful college enrollment. During the six (6) week summer component, must be able to travel and stay with the Molokai students to lead and oversee morning and evening activities. Assists program staff in planning and implementing summer classes, and weekday field trips. Maintains participant tracking for and assists Director in preparation of federal and university reports. Must have the ability to work flexible hours to accommodate program hours (including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays) with advance notice. 




Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university. (Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college and at least two (2) years of relevant professional experience typically acquired by working with or in a TRIO program, secondary school, postsecondary institution, or community-based organization may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.).


One to three (1-3) years of experience working with high school youth, preferably those similar in background to that of program participants (e.g., low-income, first generation to attend college).


Knowledge of college admissions, financial aid, career guidance, and other student college retention services. Familiar with socio-economic issues and economic differences, as well as individual and group dynamics that affect educational progress. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and common social media platforms.


Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check.
