Job Description

UH CANCER CENTER RESEARCH INFORMATICIAN – ID# 18516.<​/strong> 

 

University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center (UHCC), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

 

MONTHLY SALARY:  Salary commensurate with qualifications. 

 

DUTIES:  Designs, develops, integrates, and administers programs to manage a large data warehouse of new genomics and bio specimen data as well as existing large dietary and epidemiologic databases.  Writes complex queries for data extraction and manipulation. Defines procedures for data management to ensure complex data from diverse sources can be integrated and shared. Defines procedures to assure data integrity and accuracy. Ensures that all investigators and staff associated with the project are appropriately provided with data from the informatics activities. Consults with staff members and faculty to determine course of action when problems arise.  Attends staff and programmer meetings as required.

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Computer Science, Statistics, or related area. (Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college with three (3) years of experience in data management programming may substitute for Bachelor’s Degree).  EXPERIENCE:  At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in data management and computer programming.  Considerable programming experience with a programming language such as Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), Structured Query Language (SQL), Visual Basic (VB) or R.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Strong working knowledge of electronic data processing practices in a Microsoft Windows environment.  Working knowledge of a word processing package such as Microsoft Word or WordPerfect and spreadsheet applications such as Excel. Good written and oral communications skills. Post Offer/Employment Condition:Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must complete the University of Hawai‘i’s Cancer Center HIPAA/PHI privacy and security training immediately after hire or not later than employee’s initial exposure to HIPAA/PHI. Must maintain a current status on the University’s and/or the business entity's training requirements.POL​ICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to the University of Hawai‘i's Cancer Center HIPAA/PHI privacy and security policy. Violation of the RCUH's, the UH's, or the business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). Must complete the University of Hawai‘i's Cancer Center HIPAA/PHI privacy and security training immediately after hire or not later than employee’s initial exposure to HIPAA/PHI. Must maintain a current status on the University’s and/or the business entity's training requirements.  

 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Statistics or related area.  Knowledge of statistical methods and techniques.  Experience working with Epidemiologic research data.
