(2) Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with theMauiHighPerformanceComputingCenter(MHP​CC),DepartmentofDefenseHigh Performance Computing Modernization Program’s “Vanguard Center for High Performance Computing”, locatedatthe Maui ResearchandTechnologyPark (MRTP) in Maui, Hawai‘i. This position will conduct research under the University of Hawai‘i Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) Task Orders. Telework (from employee’s residence city and state) may be permissible subject to review and approval by Principal Investigator and RCUH. Continuation of employment is dependentuponprogram/operationalneeds,sat​isfactoryworkperformance,availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.  

 


MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $5,000 - $7,600/Mon. 

 


DUTIES:  Assists the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) and Information System Security Officer (ISSO) on all matters, technical and otherwise, involving the security of an information system. Assists with guaranteeing that the automated information systems (AIS) are operated, used, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with internal security policies and practices, and AIS is accredited if processing classified information. Provides support in evaluating known vulnerabilities to ascertain if additional safeguards are needed. Recommends protective or corrective measures if a security problem is discovered and reports security incidents. Reports security status of the AIS. Supports in maintaining a plan for site security improvements and progress towards meeting the accreditation. Performs audits when needed and ensures audit trails are reviewed periodically, and, if required, archived for future reference. Assists in ensuring security policies and safeguards are met for personnel with access to AIS. Helps ensure that users and system support personnel have the required security clearances, authorization, and need-to-know; have been indoctrinated; and are familiar with internal security practices before access to the AIS is granted. Grants AIS access. Interfaces with internal program managers, engineers, etc. Initiates actions related to cyber incident response, investigation, and resolution. Aides in developing, maintaining, and the execution of Department of Defense (DoD) compliant Information Assurance policies and procedures for primary customer base. 

 


PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION

 

 

 

 

 

Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college or university in related field in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or a related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline. (High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and at least two (2) additional years of related work experience equivalent to the job duties and has acquired the skills necessary to perform all job duties may substitute for an Associate’s Degree.).

EXPERIENCE

Up to one (0-1) year of experience in acomputerrelated field.

KNOWLEDGE

Familiar with the operating systems of automated informationsystems(AIS),NISTSpecialPublic​ation(SP) 800 series, Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 199 Workbook, OMB Memoranda and Circulars, and interacting with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual(NISPOM) and Defense Security Systems (DSS). Familiarization with various operating systems: UNIX, Linux, and MicrosoftWindows. Familiar with various information security assessment tools – Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), and Nessus. Familiar with Assessment and Authorization processes (Risk Management Framework).

ABILITIES & SKILLS

MustbeaU.S.Citizen.Applicantsselectedw​illbesubject to a Government security investigation and must meet eligibilityrequirementsforaccesstoclassif​iedinformation. Ability to monitor and evaluate system-operating characteristics. Ability to manage multiple IS projects simultaneously.Abilitytoeffectivelyplan,c​oordinate,and implement IS systems Security Programs at VCHPC. Ability to travel as required. Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable. PostOffer/EmploymentConditions: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on a tier-3 background investigation to access classified information. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months. 

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Ability to perform repetitive keyboard entry for twenty to forty (20-40) hours per week.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:    

 

Attended a computer security training course. Knowledge of University of Hawai‘i (UH) & Research Corporation of the University of Hawai‘i (RCUH) policies and procedures. Cognizant of Special Access Required/Special Access Programs (SAR/SAP), and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) environment computing and network security. Certification compliant with DoD 8570.1 (e.g., Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), etc.).
