(2) Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC), Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program’s “Vanguard Center for High Performance Computing”, located at the Maui Research and Technology Park (MRTP) in Maui, Hawai‘i. This position will conduct research under the University of Hawai‘i Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) Task Orders. Telework (from employee’s residence city and state) may be permissible subject to review and approval by Principal Investigator and RCUH. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $9,000 - $14,936/Mon.
DUTIES: Under limited supervision, performs as a senior worker providing support and guidance to team members and regularly carrying out the most difficult and complex assignments. Responsible for providing general UNIX systems support to include such tasks as the installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating system, application, and other software. Oversees and manages system usage and tunes operating systems. Performs infrastructure support for mail, name, and file services. Collects, prepares, distributes and maintains system usage statistics. Operates as a project lead for the Systems staff in support of the Department of Defense (DoD) projects. Responsible for analyzing and resolving complex hardware and software problems, returning production systems to normal operation in a timely manner. Coordinates assignments and provides guidance to team members on software problems. Provides technical support for the VCHPC Systems help desk. Responsible for the installation, integration, and maintenance of hardware and software within the VCHPC computing infrastructure. Responsible in technical evaluations. Coordinates with other professionals in ensuring and maintaining efficiency of the systems security infrastructure. Develops and maintains documentation regarding VCHPC system management procedures. Provides instruction and training for other system administrators.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physical or Engineering Science. (Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college in Computer Science or related field, and at least of two (2) additional years of work experience which is equivalent to the duties of this job and has acquired the skills necessary to perform all job duties, or High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and at least four (4) additional years of related work experience equivalent to the job duties and has acquired the skills necessary to perform all job duties may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.).
EXPERIENCE
Five to seven (5-7) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
KNOWLEDGE
Extensive knowledge of UNIX concepts and facilities; script languages (csh, Perl); C or C++ programming languages and computer architectural concepts. Knowledge of computer hardware and software problem resolution procedures. Knowledge of security infrastructure methodologies.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Skill in installation, integration, and maintenance of operating systems, applications, and other software and hardware. Ability to provide intermediate level UNIX systems support in a mid-to-large scale high performance, multi-computer production environment. Ability to provide instruction and training for other computational professionals. Ability to monitor and evaluate system- operating characteristics, and to provide technical support. Ability to effectively communicate with computer hardware and software vendors in obtaining technical information. Ability to develop and maintain documentation regarding system management. Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable. Post offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within 60 days of hire and must be able to obtain a final security clearance within six (6) months of hire. Ability to obtain Information Assurance certification in accordance with DoD 8570.01-M within six (6) months of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds unassisted from ground level while in a standing position. Ability to perform repetitive keyboard entry for twenty to forty (20-40) hours per week. Ability to listen and speak clearly on all communications devices.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with Microsoft Windows Server Administration. Experience working with large LINUX clusters with high speed interconnects, parallel filesystems, Domain Name System (DNS), Network Information Service (NIS), SendMail, Network File System (NFS), cloud based services, DoD Information Assurance, and RedHat, Open Shift, Atlassian Suite
