PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Welder Fabricator III will be responsible for performing basic welding processes and assist major repairs on compactors, containers, and carts. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience and knowledge in welding techniques. The Welder/Fabricator will be required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity most of the workday while exerting physical effort in handling objects, performs repairs and maintenance on vehicle floors, bodies, packing blades, rails and fabrication.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following tasks.
- Repairs compactor bodies, packing blades, Truck bodies and refuse containers 2cy-60cy.
- Cut steel using a plasma cutter or torch. Fabricates steel components on trucks. .
- Performs basic welding processes such as arc welding, gas welding, aluminum welding, brazing, plastic welding, and soft soldering on a variety of materials.
- Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing compactors and containers, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
- Performs related work such as flame cutting, bending, forming, beveling, notching of metal and plastic parts.
- Performs standard layouts and set-ups of dimensions and tolerances.
- Estimates time and material costs on repairs and requisitions of new parts.
- Inspects the quality of outside/supplier repairs and or rebuilds.
- Provides assistance to and takes direction from Level I and II maintenance personnel.
- Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
In addition to performing the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the Supervisor, based on operational needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of what an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) most of the workday.
- Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less 50-75 pounds most of the workday.
- Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals.) often.
- Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements often.
- This position requires full range of bending at the waist and full use of all extremities and back muscles. Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
- Stamina and flexibility to maintain a steady work pace.
WORK HOURS
- Start time varies from 5am-7am, Monday-Saturday, 40hr week +/-, actual hours can change. Note: Start time represents a general guideline, workdays & hours worked will vary based on operational needs and will be verified during the interview. **START TIME: **
- Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and overtime based on Operational needs.
COMMUNICATION DEMANDS
- Requires verbal and written communication with supervisor, coworker, and others.
- Read, write, and comprehend in English.
- Must be able to communicate using tablets, phones or other devices as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
Skills/Knowledge:
Education/Experience:
- Working knowledge of welding techniques
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to use power and hand tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem- solving skills.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks in a
timely fashion.
- High school diploma or equivalent education
- Valid Class 3 driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Previous welding and fabrication experience or formal training certificate.
