Job Description

We're seeking a hands-on Backend Software Developer to support and evolve our internal business systems?specifically those powering payroll, HR, and timekeeping functions. You?ll work closely with a collaborative IT and product team to build backend tools, automate workflows, and deliver custom reporting solutions.

This role is ideal for developers who enjoy solving real-world business problems, are curious about legacy technologies, and want to make a meaningful impact supporting systems thousands of users rely on daily. Experience with multi-value databases is a plus?but not a requirement. We offer training for the right candidate. This role will be in-person during the training period, with the potential for hybrid flexibility afterward.

$75,000 a year

Responsibilities

  • Support internal users by troubleshooting system issues and enhancing existing functionality.
  • Contribute to the development of custom reports and dashboards.
  • Participate in testing new software releases and ensure quality across updates.
  • Document code, write clean logic, and contribute to improving team processes.
  • Work with engineering and product leads to understand user needs and design backend solutions.
  • Build and maintain programs supporting payroll and benefits calculations, general ledger exports, employee data reporting, and timeclock and scheduling interfaces.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in software development.
  • Previous experience writing and optimizing SQL queries for data access and reporting.
  • Previous experience in multi-value databases (UniVerse, UniData, PICK, etc.) preferred.
  • Previous experience reporting with tools like Entrinsik, Crystal Reports, or similar.
  • Proficiency with at least one backend programming language (e.g., C++, PHP, Python, Perl).
  • Familiarity with ERP, payroll, HRIS, or finance-related applications.
  • Strong communication (verbal, written, interpersonal) skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in data-heavy systems or with enterprise applications.
  • Eagerness to learn unfamiliar or legacy systems.
