Bilingual Helpline Specialist (198363-04)

The nonprofit program We Are Oceania is assisting Micronesian communities in Hawaii with COVID related information and resources. They are looking for qualified people, who can work in-office as a Helpline Specialist in any of the following languages: Chuukese, Marshallese, Kosraean, Yapese, Pohnpeian, Palauan, or Samoan.

The position will start ASAP and go through the end of the year. Apply today to be considered!

Hours

Full-time, Hours vary from Sunday through Saturday, 6:30am-3:00pm or 2:30pm-11:00pm

Location

Kalihi, Honolulu, Oahu

Pay

$19 an hour

Responsibilities

  • Answer questions and provide appropriate assistance for information/referral, listening, and support service calls.
  • Respond to and provide appropriate information and intervention for COVID-19 calls.
  • Conduct intake process and refer clients to various service providers as appropriate.
  • Direct and connect via 3-way calls to partner organizations, and continue to provide cultural understanding and linguistic services if needed.
  • Conduct follow up calls to ensure quality assurance, refer to case management team if needed.
  • Document and log calls efficiently into the computer tracking system according to procedure.
  • Update forms and documents, including but not limited to resource database, client datasheets, intake forms, etc.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other staff to appropriately provide the necessary information in a culturally and linguistically proper approach.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Associates degree in human services or related field preferred, and/or at least 2 years of experience working in customer service roles and/or in a community setting.
  • Must have empathy, and a general understanding of the challenges faced by the community being served.
  • Fluency in at least one of the major Micronesian languages and other Pacific Island languages e.g. Chuukese, Marshallese, Kosraean, Yapese, Pohnpeian, Palauan, and Samoan highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
