Job Description

A growing Hawaiʻi-based solar construction firm is seeking an experienced Director of Commercial Operations to oversee planning, execution, and delivery for multiple large-scale commercial projects. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, leading a team of project managers and engineers, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. The ideal candidate is a strategic yet hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments. They should bring proven experience managing complex construction or infrastructure projects, a strong understanding of contract and budget management, and a collaborative leadership style that inspires teams to perform at their best.

Candidate must have previous experience in solar or larger general construction employment previously to be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor a team of Project Managers, Engineers, and support staff, promoting teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Establish clear goals and performance expectations to ensure consistent, high-quality project delivery.
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement across all phases of project operations.
  • Reinforce a strong culture of safety and compliance in all field and office activities.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects from initiation through completion, ensuring alignment with company objectives and client expectations.
  • Oversee daily operations, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure efficiency and cost control.
  • Anticipate potential challenges, identify risks, and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with internal departments—including procurement, engineering, and finance—to maintain project momentum and clarity.
  • Review, negotiate, and administer contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Monitor budgets, forecasts, and change orders to maintain project profitability and compliance.
  • Oversee project reporting and financial tracking to ensure accuracy and transparency.
  • Evaluate and enhance operational systems to improve productivity, communication, and project outcomes.
  • Implement best practices in project planning, scheduling, and cost management.
  • Drive consistency and accountability through standardized workflows and documentation practices.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between project teams, clients, and key partners, ensuring expectations are met and communication is proactive.
  • Cultivate strong client relationships and promote repeat business through professionalism and reliability.
  • Support business development efforts by providing technical and operational insights during project planning and proposal phases.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • 8+ years of experience in construction, project management, or operations leadership.
  • Strong understanding of large-scale project planning, cost control, and scheduling.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships effectively.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to travel interisland as needed (approximately 25%).
