Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on IT Manager to lead and support all aspects of technology operations for a growing engineering-focused firm. This role is ideal for a highly organized, service-oriented professional who can independently manage infrastructure, cybersecurity, user support, vendor relationships, and strategic technology planning.

As the sole IT resource, the IT Manager will serve as both a technical expert and trusted business partner, ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient systems that support engineering, project management, and business operations.

This position may require after hours or weekends assistance but will be paid for overtime during those times.

Full-time, Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm + OT

$120,000 to $160,000 a year

Responsibilities

IT Operations & Infrastructure

  • Manage and maintain all company IT systems, networks, servers, cloud platforms, and business applications.
  • Administer Microsoft 365, email systems, file storage, collaboration tools, and user accounts.
  • Monitor system performance, backups, patching, and software updates.
  • Maintain network infrastructure including firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi, VPNs, and internet connectivity.
  • Ensure reliable operation of office and remote-work technology environments.

Help Desk & User Support

  • Provide day-to-day technical support for employees across the office and remote locations.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, connectivity, printing, and mobile device issues.
  • Set up and configure laptops, desktops, phones, and peripherals for new hires and existing staff.
  • Develop user documentation and provide employee training on systems and cybersecurity best practices.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Manage cybersecurity tools, endpoint protection, MFA, access controls, and security monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain IT policies, disaster recovery procedures, and backup strategies.
  • Coordinate security assessments, software licensing, and compliance requirements.
  • Respond to security incidents and implement preventative measures.

Engineering Systems Support

  • Support engineering and design software platforms such as AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, or other industry-specific applications.
  • Coordinate software licensing and workstation performance optimization for technical users.
  • Work with engineering teams to evaluate and implement technology solutions that improve productivity and collaboration.

Vendor & Asset Management

  • Manage relationships with external IT vendors, consultants, internet providers, and software providers.
  • Track IT inventory, warranties, software licenses, and equipment lifecycle replacement schedules.
  • Negotiate pricing and coordinate procurement of hardware and software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 15-20 years of progressive IT support and infrastructure experience.
  • Experience independently managing IT operations in a small or mid-sized business environment.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Microsoft 365 Administration.
    • Windows operating systems and Active Directory.
    • Networking, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless systems.
    • Cybersecurity best practices and endpoint protection.
    • Cloud services and backup solutions.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work independently.
