Job Description

A leading shipbuilding and repair company is looking for an experience Shipyard Manager to add to their team!

The Shipyard Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the shipyard which will include coordinating and supervising all aspects of shipbuilding, repair, maintenance, and refurbishment projects.

This role requires a strong leader with excellent communication, organizational, and technical skills to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Hours

Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:00AM-3:30PM

Location

Nimitz, Honolulu, Oahu

Pay

$80,000 a year

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day shipyard operations, ensuring crews are properly assigned, equipped, and ready to begin work each morning.
  • Lead and support shipyard workers — including laborers, painters, and maintenance staff — by providing clear direction, setting expectations, and assisting with hands-on tasks as needed.
  • Monitor daily work progress to ensure jobs are completed safely, on time, and up to company standards.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for crew members, answering questions, solving problems, and helping troubleshoot issues as they arise on the job.
  • Coordinate work schedules, delegate assignments, and follow up to confirm tasks are completed correctly and efficiently.
  • Assist in hiring, training, and evaluating team members; provide feedback to improve performance and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures; ensure all team members follow proper protective measures and safety protocols.
  • Keep track of materials, tools, and equipment needed for each project and communicate shortages or maintenance needs to management.
  • Work closely with supervisors and management to relay project status, staffing needs, and potential issues affecting timelines.
  • Occasionally respond to urgent or emergency repair needs, including weekend work when necessary to meet customer deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in naval architecture, marine engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in shipyard management or a related leadership role within the maritime industry.
  • Strong knowledge of shipbuilding, repair, and maintenance processes.
  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory compliance within the maritime industry.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective leadership and team management abilities with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
