Job Description

OVERVIEW

Local private conservation organization is seeking qualified part-time candidates (with potential to become full-time) to primarily conduct invasive vegetation management in several locations across Maui.  Vegetation management methods will include weed whacking, broadcast spraying herbicide from a company truck, and backpack spraying large areas on foot.  The applicant must be capable of safely operating hand and power tools, calculating simple mixture rates, logging herbicide usage, understanding herbicide labels and safety, and be able to work independently.  Other duties may include (but are not limited to) predator/ungulate-proof fence construction and maintenance, predator/ungulate control, and native habitat restoration.

 

*Note: While we recognize the inherent risks of using herbicide to control invasive vegetation, we and many leading conservation agencies understand that it is a valuable management tool when used correctly.


SCHEDULE

  • Part-time with potential to develop into full-time
  • Weekday availability preferred, although weekends are possible.  
  • If necessary, we’re willing to consider working around the applicant’s primary job schedule.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hawaii Pesticide Applicators License (preferred, may increase pay)
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Internet access and email capability (for scheduling and HR purposes)
  • Ability to read, write, and understand (English) equipment and product labels for safety and proper use
  • Ability to operate power tools such as a weed trimmer or chainsaw (preferred)
  • Experience/familiarity working with herbicide (basic safety, ability to calculate simple mixtures, etc.)
  • Be accountable and punctual
  • Follow directions and be able to work independently or in a small team


COMPENSATION:

$13+ per hour depending on qualifications
