Job Description
Maui United Way is seeking a dynamic and experienced Deputy Director to join our leadership team. This role is crucial in driving our mission to address Maui County's most pressing needs through collaborative efforts and impactful programs. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of Maui's unique cultural landscape and a proven track record in nonprofit management.

Responsibilities:

Operations and Administrative Support Systems
- Lead daily operations and internal processes to promote efficiency, accountability, and alignment with the organization's mission
- Develop and oversee systems and practices to support staff performance and team morale
- Supervise the Executive Assistant and ensure effective support for senior leadership and Board functions
- Coordinate agency-wide calendaring, scheduling, and internal communications systems
- Monitor and improve standard operating procedures across departments
- Lead internal staff meetings, retreats, and professional development initiatives
- Ensure operational decisions reflect staff feedback and community-informed practices
- Represent the Executive Director in internal meetings and key external engagements when necessary

Impact Team Oversight
- Provide leadership and supervision to the Impact Team
- Oversee execution of community partnerships, service delivery, and grant-funded initiatives
- Guide the team in meeting impact goals aligned with resilience, recovery, and equity priorities post-2023 wildfires
- Ensure collaboration with other departments while maintaining focus on community outcomes

Kama‘āina Credit Program Management
- Lead strategic implementation of the $12 million Kama‘āina Credit Program
- Oversee program design, enrollment strategies, and participant communications
- Ensure compliance with County funding requirements, reporting benchmarks, and data privacy standards
- Manage relationships with contracted nonprofits delivering case management and support services

Strategic Planning and Implementation
- Support the Executive Director in executing organizational strategy
- Track agency-wide milestones and program benchmarks
- Participate in and lead cross-functional planning groups and strategic initiatives

Requirements:

- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and cross-functional projects
- Understanding of Maui County's unique cultural and social context
- Established Hawaiʻi networks (especially on Maui) and experience cultivating long-term relationships with partners, funders, government, private sector, and communities
- Familiarity with Hawaiian cultural values and worldviews, including traditional and customary Native Hawaiian practices
- Ability to navigate business and social settings, including formal meetings, donor events, and cultural gatherings
- Passionate and enthusiastic about MUW's mission and impact
- Familiarity and/or fluency in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (at minimum, commonly used words)
- Experience overseeing large-scale programs or direct service initiatives with significant public funding
- Exceptional organizational, facilitation, and communication skills
- Proficient in project management systems, SOP development, and collaborative leadership

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, public administration, organizational development, or related field
- Minimum 5 years in nonprofit or public sector leadership, including team supervision and operational management
