Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Operations Manager is responsible for planning, managing and overseeing all activities pertaining to the drilling division, quality, safety, and administration of all projects in accordance with the company procedures and regulations.  This position develops drilling strategies and internal process controls, to ensure achievement of company revenue and profitability objectives.  The Operations Manager provides leadership and confidence to the drilling team and assists in decision making that impact potential issues and outcomes of drilling projects.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

-  Direct and oversee all aspects of the drilling operations as it relates to safety, quality, cost control, project schedule, contract administration and employee relations.

-  Collaborate with the President to set strategic direction and standards for operational performance, sustainability, and growth.

-  Continually search for new opportunities and manage process for preparing proposals including assignment of process tasks and progress toward due dates to ensure adequate time for review and timely submission of proposals.

-  Direct, plan, and manage utilization of project resources (equipment, budget and personnel) to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.  Identify areas to improve operations in order to achieve or exceed key performance indicators and targets.

-  Maintain oversight and hands-on involvement with current projects, vendor relationships, company personnel and project targets.  Develop internal process controls and ensure compliance with policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

-  Lead drilling operations organizational planning, development and execution including monthly tracking and monitoring performance through routine reporting and operational meetings.  Conduct weekly/monthly/final project reviews to ensure cost containment and process improvement.

-  Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations.  Maintain familiarity with government regulations, contract stipulations for each current contract, and company policies and best practices.

-  Drive safety initiatives and awareness in assigned areas.  Ensure items on annual risk assessments are addressed and completed.

-  Work closely with the President and Controller to report all financial results and manage all financial needs of organizational operations (e.g. materials, overhead).  Review quarterly results and analysis against budget and ensure visibility for performance management of cost controls.

-  Responsible for hiring, coaching, professional development and performance management of drilling staff as needed.

-  Manage team schedules to maximize performance, minimize overtime, plan for vacation and absences.

-  Partner with Human Resources to lead and conduct employee performance appraisals.

-  Travel to construction drilling project sites, as needed.

-  Perform other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

-  AAS or BA college degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.

-  Minimum seven (7) years of drilling rig experience required.

-  Minimum five (5) years of management experience required.

-  Experience working with top-drive, rotary, table drive, hammers and tricones preferred.

-  IADC Certificate preferred.

-  Project Management background a plus.

-  Proficiency in Microsoft Suites - Word, Excel and MAC Suites required.

-  Proficiency in Bluebeam, or Adobe Acrobat preferred.
