Job Description

 Position Summary

The Program Lead is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of grant-funded community programs serving individuals, families, and communities throughout Maui County. This position provides day-to-day leadership of assigned programs, coordinates community partnerships, ensures compliance with grant requirements, manages program logistics and reporting, and supports Maui United Way's mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community.

The Program Manager works collaboratively with staff, community partners, funders, and participants to deliver high-quality, culturally responsive, trauma-informed services while ensuring program goals, outcomes, and reporting requirements are successfully achieved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program Leadership

  • Lead the implementation of assigned grant-funded community programs from planning through completion.
  • Develop and maintain annual work plans, timelines, and implementation schedules.
  • Coordinate program activities, workshops, outreach events, and meetings.
  • Ensure all activities align with grant objectives, budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Identify challenges and recommend solutions to improve program effectiveness.

Community Engagement & Partnership Development

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, schools, healthcare providers, cultural practitioners, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
  • Represent Maui United Way at meetings, coalitions, community events, and public presentations.
  • Foster culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-centered approaches throughout program implementation.
  • Recruit and support community participants and volunteers.

Program Operations

  • Coordinate logistics including scheduling, venues, transportation, supplies, contracts, and event planning.
  • Supervise program calendars and maintain organized project documentation.
  • Ensure participant confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies.

Grant Compliance & Reporting

  • Monitor progress toward grant deliverables and performance measures.
  • Maintain participant records, attendance, and required documentation.
  • Collect quantitative and qualitative data, including surveys, success stories, and testimonials.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and final grant reports.
  • Ensure compliance with funder requirements and organizational policies.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Assist with monitoring program budgets.
  • Track expenditures and purchases.
  • Coordinate procurement of program materials and services.
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of grant resources.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate across Maui United Way departments to ensure integrated service delivery.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, strategic planning, and organizational initiatives.
  • Support emergency response and community initiatives as assigned.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support Maui United Way's mission and strategic priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience administering grant-funded programs.
  • Knowledge of Maui County communities and nonprofit networks.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care, behavioral health, community resilience, or disaster recovery programs.
  • Understanding of Native Hawaiian values and culturally grounded community engagement.
  • Experience collecting program data and evaluating outcomes.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel throughout Maui County.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for community meetings or events.

Employment Conditions

This is a full-time, temporary, grant-funded hourly position anticipated to last one year. Continued employment is contingent upon funding availability, organizational needs, and satisfactory performance.

This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime in accordance with federal and state law.

Employment with Maui United Way is at will, meaning either the employee or Maui United Way may terminate employment at any time, with or without notice, subject to applicable law.
