Job Description

A Project Engineer is responsible for all disciplines and administration of projects assigned to him/her by Castaway Construction & Restoration LLC or its wholly owned subsidiaries: Island Tile & Stone LLC, Hawaii Electrical Solutions, Cooling Hawaii LLC, Island Commercial Doors & Windows, LLC. A project Engineer will schedule, plan, forecast, resource and manage all the technical activities aiming at assuring project accuracy and quality from conception to completion while staying within budget.

 

Duties Expected

  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters, such as work procedures, complaints, or electrical construction problems.
  • Plan, organize, or direct activities concerned with the construction or electrical maintenance of structures, facilities, or systems.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management and Field Supervision to manage communication to clients and owner representatives.
  • Compile Monthly Pay Applications and submittal to clients.
  • Develop or implement environmental protection programs.
  • Study job specifications to determine appropriate electrical construction methods.
  • Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, or other regulations.
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, or cost tracking reports.
  • Develop or implement quality control programs.
  • Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Develop project 4-week look-ahead schedules to manage project labor resources.
  • Review and ensure all field time keeping is complete and reconciled.
  • Review Certified Payroll reports against DPRs to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain project schedules to ensure project meet set timelines and forecasted completion dates.
  • Communicate variances to schedule to Project Management and Field Supervision
  • Gather, review, and submit invoices timely to Accounting for processing.
  • Support Project Management with lien releases and close out documentation.
  • Provide administrative and other engineering support to Project Management and Field Supervision as assigned.
  • Identify project equipment needs and develop the specifications for equipment as required for each project.
  • Create the framework used to develop and monitor project metrics and manage the collection of project data.
  • Establish the methods by which all field tests are administered and develop various ways to monitor the quality of those tests.
  • May coordinate with other departments and field management and staff to ensure smooth operations between departmental functions.
  • Take general management direction from immediate supervisor.
  • Determine labor requirements for dispatching workers to construction sites.
  • Requisition supplies or materials to complete construction projects.
  • Apply green building strategies to reduce energy costs or minimize carbon output or other sources of harm to the environment.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, Experience

  • Good communication skills; is able to effectively communicate to all levels of management, both internally and externally; gives full attention to others; asks questions when appropriate to fully understand points being made, and lets others fully state their ideas.

  • Has the ability to read plans and specs and assist Project Manager and/or Estimator with take-offs.
  • AutoCAD experience is a PLUS.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Educational and experience requirements include: 4-year Bachelor’s degree, especially in electrical engineering, civil engineering, business administration, or construction management a plus
  • 3 years’ experience in the Electrical/Construction Industry
  • 3 years’ construction engineer experience or equivalent combinations of training and experience.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications (EXCEL, Word, Outlook, Project)
  • Experience with Construction Project Management Software
  • Good communications and writing skills required.
  • Planning and organizational skills are required in order to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
