Job Description


Job Title: Employment Counselor


Location: Kona, Big Island


Schedule: Core office hours are between 7:45am-4:30pm Monday through Friday; Occasional travel may be required


Compensation: Based on Experience with competitive benefits package




Summary: Counsels clients and provides group educational and vocational guidance to program participants in the First to Work Vocational Rehabilitation (FTW VR) program by performing the following duties:




Essential Duties:

·         Collects, organizes and analyzes information about individuals through records, tests, interviews and professional sources to appraise participants’ interests, aptitudes, abilities and personality characteristics for vocational planning and/or employment placements.

·         Compiles and studies occupational, educational and economic information to aid participants in making and carrying out vocational and educational objectives.

·        Assists individuals to understand and overcome social and emotional problems.

·         Works with other training staff and job developer to formulate a program for a smooth transition into community employment.

·         Provides case management services to participants.

·         Inputs data into State computer system on client activities.

·         Ability to deal effectively with difficult and on occasion, irate participants.

·         Generates payments for supportive services childcare, transportation, other expenses.




Minimum Qualifications:


·         Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred and/or


·         One to two year’s related experience
