Tour Guide & Retail Associate – Kona Salt Farm Full Time 

Location: Kona, Hawai‘i Island  Compensation: Tour Days $27.00 per hour + gratuities, Retail $21.00 per hour

About Us

Kona Salt Farm is Hawai‘i Island’s only working salt farm, located oceanfront at Keāhole Point within the Hawai‘i Ocean Science and Technology (HOST) Park. We hand-harvest Hawaiian salt and deep ocean magnesium from 2,200 feet below the ocean surface, blending cultural traditions, science and ocean stewardship. Our tours invite guests to experience the deep connection between Hawai‘i’s ocean, land, and people.

Position Summary

We are seeking a friendly, reliable, and knowledgeable Tour Guide to join our weekend team. The ideal candidate will have a strong appreciation for Hawaiian culture and traditions, a passion for sharing authentic stories, and the ability to create an engaging, educational, and memorable experience for visitors from around the world. The position will be 2 days per week at minimum for Scheduled Tours, Private Tours periodically and the other days in our Retail Farm Store.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead guided salt farm tours (typically 60 minutes) for individuals, families, and private groups.
  • Share information about Hawai‘i’s salt-making traditions, deep ocean water science, and sustainability practices.
  • Engage guests with cultural stories, historical background, and personal insights that reflect aloha and respect for the land (‘āina).
  • Support private tours, group experiences, and occasional special events.
  • Assist with light setup and cleanup for tours or activities.
  • Maintain a professional, welcoming demeanor that represents the Kona Salt Farm’s values of authenticity, education, and ocean stewardship.

Qualifications

  • Strong authentic knowledge of or connection to Hawaiian culture, language, and traditions.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups and creating a warm, engaging experience.
  • Reliable and punctual; available on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Prior experience in hospitality, guiding, or education preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in warm conditions.
  • Passion for sustainability, ocean conservation, and sharing Hawai‘i’s story.
