Our client is on the lookout for a dynamic and driven Pilot Plant Operations Technician to join their team in Kona. In this role, you will support the lead Commissioning Engineer and play a crucial part in the operation and maintenance of our client's innovative 1Kton pilot plant, extracting and harnessing the CO2 from the ocean.

The ideal candidate will have a couple of years of relevant hands-on experience in the operation of industrial systems. This is a great opportunity for a candidate with some mechanical aptitude who is passionate about environmental sciences, alternative energy, and sustainability.

Hours

Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8am-4:30pm (Varying shifts & weekends as needed)

Pay

$28 to $32 an hour

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the complete seawater and gas flow path, including intake system, degassing columns, CO2 post-processing, and outfall.
  • Operate and monitor the system via online HMI interface, adjusting setpoints and reviewing live data trends.
  • Execute daily startup, shutdown, and operational checks of pumps, valves, and instrumentation.
  • Record, monitor, and organize operational data, including flow rates, pressures, CO2 concentrations, and pH readings.
  • Perform marine water sampling and calibrate analytical probes.
  • Conduct routine mechanical maintenance of system components.
  • Support troubleshooting of system issues and assist with system modifications or upgrades.
  • Safely handle and prepare process chemicals used in system maintenance and calibration.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace across various environments.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and researchers to support R&D initiatives.
  • Work safely around large machinery, cryogenic systems, and in outdoor environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Marine Science, or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on experience working with process systems involving fluids, gases, or cryogenic components.
  • Experience handling and working safely with chemicals such as acids and bases.
  • Prior experience in laboratory or industrial environments with analytical instruments.
  • Physically capable and confident working with heavy machinery, large pump systems, and process piping.
  • Familiarity with HMI or PLC-based control systems.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in marine or industrial environments.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and safety.
  • Eagerness to learn, grow, and take initiative in a hands-on technical setting.
  • Willingness to work outdoors, lift equipment, and stand for prolonged periods.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends and odd hours.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in small teams.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and state and federal background check.
