Seeking an experienced Project Accountant for a full-time opening with a general contractor in Kailua-Kona. This role will oversee all project-related financial transactions, from contractor payments to internal payroll costing allocations. Hours

Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm

Location

Kailua-Kona, Big Island

Responsibilities

  • Collect, reconcile, obtain approval, and process all project-related trade contractor payments, general expenditures, and internal payroll costing allocations (including recharge).
  • Complete all financial transactions in a timely and accurate manner in order to meet all contract payment terms as per legislation, contract terms, and company policy and procedures.
  • Review and analyze all adjustments, submissions, and reports and ensures they are completed in a timely manner. Follow up and manage any issues, problems, or discrepancies.
  • Provide project team with various ad hoc reports and analysis as required.
  • Assist with year-end procedures and external financial reporting requirements (e.g., government agencies, taxes).
  • Assemble client billings package in accordance with contract terms and conditions and follow up appropriately to ensure on-time payment.
  • Prepare bank deposits and/or monthly reconciliations and prepare subsequent cash receipt entries where required.
  • Review and analyze monthly contract reports to ensure accuracy of cash-flow, fee reconciliation, and ledger balance. Subsequently, follow up with project management staff and accounting manager to identify any irregularities or risk exposure and assists with the development of a strategy to address accordingly.
  • Assemble information for internal and external audits.
  • Ensure that all required documentation (including insurance, bonding, SDI, workers compensation, statutory declarations, and lien waivers) is in place.
  • Read and interpret trade contracts for accounting-related items.
  • Supervise, direct, coach, train, and mentor the junior accounting employees on a daily basis.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • College degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
  • Must have at least 3-5 years of accounting experience. Construction accounting experience desired.
  • Intermediate knowledge of project costing principles, including forecasting, budgeting, recoveries, insurance, and contract/subcontract requirements.
  • Prior supervisory experience highly preferred.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite and advanced knowledge and experience with accounting software.
  • Highly analytical with excellent eye-for-detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong customer-focused relationships with company stakeholders.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
