DEPARTMENT: Golf Shop                                                         JOB TITLE: First Assistant Golf Professional

REPORTS TO: Head Pro Golf                                             

JOB TYPE: Exempt

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Head Golf Professional, the First Assistant Golf Professional to play a central leadership role within our golf department. This position is ideal for a PGA Professional or experienced golf professional who is proactive, organized, and passionate about delivering exceptional golf experience for our members. The First Assistant will work closely with the Head Golf Professional while taking ownership of day-to-day golf operations, managing the golf shop, overseeing merchandising, and supporting instructional programs. This role requires someone who can lead with confidence, uphold high standards, and set the tone for departmental culture, ensuring the smooth operation of all aspects of the golf program. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Golf Department Leadership & Operations 

    • Take ownership of all golf department operations, ensuring smooth daily workflow, excellent member service, and adherence to club standards. 
    • Oversee golf shop operations, including merchandising, purchasing, inventory management, and visual displays, keeping the shop fresh, organized, and profitable. 
    • Lead and inspire staff to maintain a collaborative, high-performing, and professional team culture. 
    • Act with autonomy and initiative, making operational decisions that maintain consistency and excellence in your absence. 

    Instruction & Golf Academy 

    • Teach individual and group lessons as part of the golf academy program. 
    • Collaborate with the Head Golf Professional and academy staff to develop and deliver instructional programs that engage members and enhance their experience. 
    • Participate in clinics, demo days, and other golf events to promote the game of golf and encourage member participation. 

    Member Engagement & Club Support 

    • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for members, providing guidance on golf rules, equipment, and club programs. 
    • Assist with tournaments, events, and special programs, ensuring seamless execution and high-quality experiences. 
    • Maintain the GHIN handicap system and accurate record-keeping. 

    Strategic Contribution 

    • Collaborate on departmental planning, operational improvements, and long-term initiatives to support growth and success. 
    • Set a professional example for all staff, embodying the standards, values, and culture of the golf department. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Active PGA classification or equivalent professional golf experience. 
  • Strong knowledge of golf operations, merchandising, and instructional programs. 
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. 
  • Proficiency with POS and tee sheet systems (experience with Club Essentials preferred). 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. 
  • High standards of professionalism, integrity, and member service. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Combination of indoor and outdoor work, including participation in club events, tournaments, and instructional programs. 
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, and occasional light lifting. 
  • Frequent interaction with members, staff, and vendors in a collaborative environment. 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS PACKAGE:

  • Salary range: $60,000–$70,000 annually, depending on experience.

MENTAL DEMANDS: This job requires long hours of work, and the worker must be demonstrative and pleasant always.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must be able to stand and talk for long periods of time. The  employee must always have a pleasant attitude with emotions under control.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  While performing the duties of this job, employee is on their feet for 6 to 8 hours a day. At times the employee will be asked to assist with bag drop and park golf carts. Range duties may be required from time to time.
