Medical Assistant- Ophthalmology
Windward Eye is seeking a friendly, dependable team member to join our comprehensive ophthalmology practice. We have two welcoming, community-centered clinics serving Kāneʻohe and Kailua in Windward Oʻahu. In this role, you will support both patient care and front office operations. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys helping patients and working as part of a collaborative healthcare team. You will work closely with our ophthalmologists to provide high-quality care that maintains eye health and improves vision. Punctuality and reliability are essential to ensure smooth clinic flow and consistent patient care. Prior medical experience is helpful, but we are willing to train the right candidate. Surgery scheduling experience is also strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Welcome and check in patients in a professional and friendly manner.
- Prepare charts and assist with maintaining organized medical records.
- Assist with clinic flow. Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
- Interview patients, record medical history and medications, measure visual acuity, and perform basic vision testing.
- Check intraocular pressure and administer eye drops as directed by the physician.
- Strict compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized clinic environment.
- Verify insurance and update patient information.
- Answer phone calls to assist patients with scheduling, questions and coordination of care.
- Collection of copayments/coinsurance, processing payment.
- Assist in communicating with referring physician offices and pharmacies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational ability
- Ability to multitask in a busy clinical environment
- Basic computer skills
- Medical office experience and surgery scheduling experience preferred
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
