Parkway Village Preschool is located at 689 Manawai Street #E114, Kapolei, HI 96706, at the newly developed Parkway Village at Kapolei within walking distance of Hoʻokele Elementary School. JOB TITLE: Special Education Preschool Teacher

PROGRAM: Parkway Village Preschool

REPORTS TO: Preschool Center Director

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Exempt

COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT: HSTA (Hawaii State Teachers Association)
COMPENSATION: $51,835 to $72,941 Yearly
TEACHER SALARY DIFFERENTIAL: $10,000 (Special Education with Hawaii teaching license, Pro-Rated)

Job Summary:

The Special Education Preschool Teacher is responsible for providing early intervention and instructional support for preschool-aged children with developmental delays or disabilities. This teacher will design and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with families, service providers, and school teams to ensure all keiki reach their fullest potential in a caring, play-based, and inclusive setting. You will also provide leadership and guidance to our dedicated team of educators. This role operates under the direct supervision of the Preschool Center Director.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Exhibit conduct in line with the school’s mission and adhere to personnel policies and procedures.
  2. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, evidence-based lessons aligned with each child's Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals in all domains of early learning. That fosters cognitive, social-emotional, motor, language, and self-help skills using evidence-based practices.
  3. Establish a nurturing, safe, and culturally respectful environment that encourages exploration, independence, and positive social interactions for all children enrolled in the preschool.
  4. Administer timely and age appropriate developmental and behavioral screenings. Responsible for tracking and monitoring the development of all children using the school’s assessment system. Observe, assess, and document each child’s progress, strengths, and areas of growth.  Use assessments to adapt teaching strategies and individualize learning experiences for each child, adjusting instruction as needed.  Regularly communicate with parents and guardians about their child’s development and progress.
  5. Create and manage a positive and inclusive environment where all children feel safe, respected and valued. Utilize available resources to maintain a safe, healthy, stimulating, and developmentally suitable learning environment that meets charter and applicable state regulations.
  6. Maintain accurate and confidential documentation, following established standards, including HIPAA and FERPA.
  7. Collaborate with classroom staff members to plan and conduct monthly lesson planning sessions. Work closely with staff, families, and community members to support the children’s well-being and educational development
  8. Attend regular professional development sessions and in-service training to stay current with early childhood education, developmental delay, and disability practices, especially related to cultural inclusion and social-emotional learning. Actively participate in school meetings, planning sessions, and collaborative team efforts.

 

Other Job Functions:

  1. Engage in pre-school wide planning, assessment activities, and contribute actively to the school’s quality assurance and improvement plan.
  2. Gather, verify, and submit data and reports in a timely manner.
  3. Actively participate in the annual review of the program's strategic plan and support the annual school’s self-assessment.
  4. Lead recruitment and enrollment efforts, including children with special needs.
  5. Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning, particularly in early childhood education.
  6. Attend regular supervisory and staff meetings, as well as other essential meetings.
  7. Take part in program staff development and wellness initiatives.
  8. Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy work environment.

 

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are in both classroom and home settings, with occasional exposure to varying environmental conditions.

Equipment Use:

Primarily computer, general office equipment and tools, and educational equipment. 

Work Hours:

Monday through Friday (Day Shift) 7 hours a day, 35 hours per week.

 

Education/Experience:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Current and valid Special Education teaching license under the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB).
  3. Experience in an Early Childhood Education setting, preferred.
  4. Experience in State of Hawaii DOE procedures, systems, and coordination, preferred.

 

Other Requirements:

  1. Ability to obtain an acceptable FBI background check.
  2. Ability to obtain an acceptable CWS child abuse registry check and Sex Offender Registry Check.
  3. Testing negative for Tuberculosis within six months prior to employment.
