ROLE

The Beach Rental Associate (Honu Specialist) is a customer-focused, beachfront position that combines rental operations with marine education located at our Kahana location. This role is responsible for assisting guests with snorkel gear and beach accessory rentals while delivering and engaging an informative experience centered on the Honu (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle)

As a key point of contact for visitors from nearby resorts and surrounding areas, the associate ensures guests are properly equipped, informed on ocean safety, and educated on responsible wildlife interaction. This position plays an important role in promoting both exceptional customer service and environmental awareness. The ideal candidate is personable, reliable, and passionate about the ocean, with the ability to create memorable guest experience while supporting conservation-minded practices.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Rent snorkel equipment (masks, fins, snorkels) and beach accessories (chair, umbrellas, boogie boards etc).
  2. Maintain rental equipment cleanliness and inventory par levels.
  3. Educate customers about the Honu, including cultural significance and local importance, responsible wildlife interaction guidelines, conservation efforts and environmental awareness, recently reported area sightings.
  • Greet and assist guests from nearby resorts and walk-up beach visitors.
  • Provide guidance on equipment use, fit, and ocean safety.
  • Maintain organized inventory, cleanliness, and readiness of all rental gear.
  • Process transactions, handle reservations, and manage daily rentals.
  • Monitor beach and ocean conditions to provide safety recommendations.
  • Create a welcoming, informative, and enjoyable customer service experience.
  • Ensure compliance with local wildlife and environmental protection regulations.
  • Foster positive working relationships with all associates.
  • Resolve escalated guest issues and complaints and resolve any challenges including unsatisfied guests.
  • Provide feedback to management of discrepancies and reoccurring problems.
  • Ensure guests are fully informed on voucher payment process at Sand of Kahana Concierge desk.
  • Present and maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times and be able to remain professional and polite during potentially stressful situations.
  • Provide basic directions, maps of area information to the customers as needed.
  • Complete daily paperwork accurately and thoroughly.

 

 REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Comfortable working outdoors in a beach environment
  • Knowledge of the Honu or willingness to learn and educate others
